ANKENY, Iowa — An Ankeny man has been charged with first-degree murder following a deadly stabbing discovered Monday morning at a local apartment complex.
Ankeny police say officers were conducting a welfare check just before 9 a.m. at an apartment located
at 1010 NE Crestmoor Place, Unit 201, when they found a woman dead inside the residence.
Authorities report the victim had an apparent stab wound. Her identity has not yet been released.
Police identified the suspect as Johnson Chayee Browne of Ankeny, who has been formally charged with first-degree murder. Investigators say Browne and the victim knew each other.
At the time the woman’s body was discovered, Browne was already in custody at the Polk County Jail. He had been arrested around 5:30 p.m. Sunday following an altercation with police who were responding to a report of a suspicious man breaking into a vehicle.
