Field Naming Ceremony Friday, May 13th at 5:00 PM
In 1972, Ernie Clutter was the president of the Bristol Youth Baseball Club. Title IX was just passed and the club suddenly needed extra funds to start a girls’ summer league. Ernie, and other members of the baseball club, decided to reach out to the Champion 200 Club for assistance in starting their own reverse raffle dinner dance.
The first dinner dance was held in the fall of 1972. Two years later, the tickets were in such high demand, the club decided to create the Bristol 300 Club. The original organizers were Ernie & Pat Clutter, Clyde & Bert Wagner, Al & Pat Myers, Lester & Betty Bundy, Pete & Thelma Molinato, and Lee & Cary Carter. The club was formed and 29 total people volunteered to sell 300 tickets.
Ernie & Pat served as ticket captains for many years. Pat Clutter was a long-time ticket coordinator of the club. She also served as the secretary for the better part of a decade in the 70s and 80s. Ernie was on the Bristol School Board at the time that the land that would become the Bristol Sports Complex was purchased and development began.
After Pat’s passing in June of 2020, a memorial fund was set up and the proceeds went to the 300 Club in her memory.
We are happy to announce that the Bristol 300 Club, along with the Bristol Athletic Department has decided to name the Bristol High School Softball field “Clutter Field.” We will have a ceremony this Friday, May 13th, at 5:00 PM directly before the start of the Bristol Softball game.
