Nalani Horse Rescue

Nalani Horse Rescue VA based non-profit 501(c)(3)🐓
Rescuing and restoring horses in need. Dedicated to second chances, healing, and hope. 🫶 Welcome to Nalani Horse Rescue!

Our mission is to provide care and rehabilitation to horses who have suffered abuse, trauma and neglect, bring awareness to the plight of unwanted horses as well as provide education on proper horse care. Horses that are neglected and abused end up in the slaughter pipeline through absolutely no fault of their own—Nalani Horse Rescue is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to changing the outcome fo

r these needy horses.

Horses are highly intelligent and very sensitive animals. When they have endured trauma or neglect—the damage to them is profound and exceeds physical damage. It is often accompanied by emotional and psychological damage. Nalani Horse Rescue takes a multi-step approach to their care. First, we heal them physically and then we slowly and steadily work with them to earn their trust and heal their trauma emotionally and psychologically. Our safe, peaceful, and tranquil environment fosters healing on many levels.

Nalani Horse Rescue recognizes that every horse is an individual. Each horse we rescue is treated with a customized plan for their recovery based on their specific individual unique needs and challenges. Recovery and building trust take time and slow, steady steps. We invest the time each horse needs to move toward their healing.

✨ Cricket is searching for his forever companion home! Spread the word! ✨

At about 25 years old and standing a cute 13.1 hands, Cricket is the sweetest little gentleman wrapped up in the most adorable package.

He can be a bit shy at first, but once he warms up, he soaks up attention, especially from tiny humans! In fact, he absolutely adores children and would thrive in a home where he can be loved on by little ones.

Cricket is barefoot, UTD on all his care, and incredibly safe to handle. He gets along well with the whole herd, has a best buddy, but isn’t buddy sour. He’s happy to go with the flow.

This kind, gentle soul is ready for a family to love him as much as he will love them. šŸ“šŸ’•

šŸ“© If you think Cricket could be the perfect fit for your family, reach out to us today! *Located in Broad Run, Va. Adopters will be fully vetted.

Big thanks to Kate Breiner for teaching us how to do pillar work with Teddy.🐓

Pillar work is a type of in-hand exercise that helps horses engage their core, lift through their back, and build a more balanced, symmetrical body. It’s kind of like Pilates for horses.

Teddy has some muscle loss along his topline (the muscles that run along his back), likely from a mix of past pain, poor training when he was younger, and years of moving in a way that compensated for discomfort.

The best thing is he actually enjoys the work! And we’re already seeing changes in his posture. It’s going to make a big difference in his long-term health and comfort, which is exactly what he deserves. 🩵

Education is a big part of what we do at Nalani. We love every chance to show people just how incredible horses are, and to share our belief in building relationships based on kindness and trust, not dominance.

Meet Sam! He is a vet assistant at a small animal clinic and is applying to vet schools. He wanted to get some hands-on experience with horses, so starting today, he’ll be spending time with us.

He survived heat, bugs, and storms on day one. Welcome to the world of horse care, Sam! We’re excited to have you! 🐓

Today was Pride’s lucky day! She was adopted into the most wonderful, loving home. Knowing the incredibly difficult life she has had, my heart melted watching her settle into her stall, complete with a fan and a thick layer of shavings.

Moxie, also a rescue horse, recently said goodbye to her best friend when Pride’s adopter made the tough call to put down her beloved horse. Three hearts mended today. As for my heart…Well, no doubt goodbyes are hard. More on that soon….but tonight, I’m celebrating a win for Nalani Horse Rescue. šŸ’•

Remember sweet little Winnie? Liz and I pulled her from New Holland back in 2022. Look at her now…loving life with her own little girl. šŸ“šŸ’ž

I take sooo many photos of the horses. It’s hard not to! But I keep coming back to this one. It captures Pride so beautifully.

She is proof positive that you can be both soft and strong. A sweet, gentle soul, she has a quiet confidence that radiates from within.

Such an incredible transformation from the mare who was once frantic at meal times, her eyes glazed over. She has overcome so much and there is no doubt she has my heart. šŸ’—

Starting the week with some happy news! šŸŽ‰

When I adopt out a horse, my hope is always that it’s a forever home, but life happens, and circumstances change. Sweet Remi has come back to us more than once, and each time, I’ve wondered if maybe he was meant to stay with me for good.

Then I got a call about Thunderbird.

Thunderbird had been part of a bonded pair adopted from Hope’s Legacy Equine Rescue. When his companion passed away, he was understandably heartbroken. His family, a kind and loving one, hoped to find him a new friend and they fell in love with Remi at first sight.

We took Remi to meet Thunderbird last week, and the connection was immediate. They settled right in together. 🄰

There are no guarantees in life, but I can promise this: Remi will always be safe, and he will always be loved. 🐓🩵
