This is one of those moments in Bella’s story that we’ll never forget. 🥺
At the time, we kept telling ourselves, “She’s not our dog. She’s their responsibility.” We had told her previous owners how worried we were about her roaming the streets, and they always felt that she knew her way around and would come home.
Then we came home from Denver and saw the Facebook post about a small tan dog who had been found deceased by the entrance to our neighborhood.
My heart sank. 😭
We were so incredibly thankful that it wasn’t Bella when she came running through that little hole in our fence. ❤️ But we also think about the family whose dog it actually was, and our hearts hurt for them. 😢 No one should have to experience that.
That day changed something in us. We realized that even though Bella wasn’t technically our dog, we couldn’t keep thinking of her as someone else’s responsibility when she was with us.
Looking back, that scary day was also the day we realized Bella was becoming so much more than the little dog who came to visit us.
She was becoming family. ❤️
