Dec. 8, 2025 - CUSTER COUNTY, NEB. - The Custer County Recycling Center (and whether it remains open or is closed) is not on the agenda released this morning for tomorrow's (Dec. 9) Custer County supervisors meeting.

At the previous meeting. Supervisor Anne Gibbons, Dist, 1, made a motion to close the center at the end of the year. However, as the item was not on the agenda, a vote could not be taken and the motion was rescinded. There is some understanding that the center was in reprieve until March to provide time to look for funding possibilities and apply for grants.

What is on the agenda for Dec. 9, among other things, is the railroad crossing at Rd 429/Anselmo crossing, Healing Hearts and Family and the W**d Superintendent end-of-year report. A board vice-chair will also be appointed, to fill the position left vacant by Barry Fox's resignation. The meeting begins at 9 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 9 at the Custer County Courthouse.

You can see the full agenda at www.custercountychief.com.

NOV. 25, 2025 - BROKEN BOW, NEB. - The closing of the the Custer County Recycling Center will be on the agenda for the next meeting of the county supervisors. Near the end of the Nov. 25 meeting, the majority of which was spent on employee health insurance discussion, Dist. 1 Supervisor Anne Gibbons said, “Since 2019, the recycling Center has lost $580,943.81. I make a motion to close the recycling center effective Dec. 31, 2025.” Dist. 2 Supervisor Tammy Kleeb stated that she thought a decision on the recycling center was tabled until March. It was quickly noted that the recycling center was not on the agenda and therefore could not be voted upon. Gibbons withdrew her motion and said she wanted the recycling center on the agenda for the next meeting. The supervisors meet the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. The next meeting is Dec. 9.
