OCT. 16, 2025 - BROKEN BOW, NEB - Broken Bow is the first emergency service in Nebraska to implement the revolutionary OneWeight™cot scale system from Hinkley Medical seamlessly integrated with the OneDose® app which house Nebraska’s statewide EMS Model Protocols. “We are first in the state to have this. We are very proud,” David Baltz, Emergency Service Director, said. The scale system, customed-installed on the ambulance cot manufacturer by Stryker, automatically measures patient weight and integrates with the OneDose® app to assist with medication dosing accuracy. This is critical to administering medications as well as providing weight if air transportation is necessary. See www.custercountychief.com for more info as well as the Oct. 23, 2025 Custer County Chief. OCT 2. 2, 2025 - CUSTER COUNTY, NEB. - On Oct. 2, 2025, the Custer County Sheriff’s Office responded to a train/semi accident at the BNSF railroad crossing at Road 455 and Highway 2. A 2020 Kenworth semi, pulling a Smithco side dump trailer, was being driven by a 53-year-old Ansley male. The semi and trailer, owned by Adams Land and Cattle Co., was being driven across the railroad tracks, attempting to turn onto Highway 2. The trailer was pushed off the crossing and into the ditch, spilling its contents, silage, onto the roadway. The driver was the lone occupant of the semi. He was transported to the Jennie Melham Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The highway was shut down for a short period of time. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Broken Bow Fire and Rescue, the Nebraska Department of Roads, Adams Land and Cattle, Hunters Towing, and BNSF.
