Juneteenth: Holiday closures
Thursday, June 19, is Juneteenth, the commemoration of the 1865 ride by Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger through the South, announcing that slavery had been abolished.
Juneteenth is a federal holiday, so all federal government offices, banks, and the U.S. Postal Service will be closed. Some private businesses may also be closed.
Mississippi does not officially recognize Juneteenth as a state holiday, so state offices will be open.
Brookhaven City offices will be closed in observance of Juneteenth on Thursday. Lincoln County offices are scheduled to be open.
Waste Management will continue trash pickup uninterrupted.
