You escaped the city grind for a quiet farm afternoon until something brushes past your ankle.
I swear on everything, trading a corporate 9-to-5 desk in downtown Chicago for a remote cabin in the countryside was the best decision I’ve ever made. The vibes out here are completely immaculate—golden hour hitting the open meadows, sheep grazing peacefully in the background, and not a single email notification in sight.
After hiking through the trails all morning, I found this crystal-clear freshwater brook winding through the pasture. I sat down on the lush grass bank, kicked off my sneakers, and dipped my bare feet straight into the running water. The crisp chill rushing over my toes felt unbelievable. I was literally having the ultimate main character moment, splashing the water, soaking up the afternoon sunshine, and thinking about how peaceful life could finally be.
I leaned back against the embankment, closed my eyes for a split second, and let the gentle breeze drown out all the noise from my old life. Everyone always tells you that escaping to nature heals your nervous system, and for a solid fifteen minutes, I totally believed it.
Until the current suddenly shifted.
