Calling it a "very important milestone," officials with the Animal Humane Society broke ground Wednesday, Aug. 19 on a new pet clinic. An expansion of the existing Golden Valley campus, the new clinic will help provide treatment for an additional 10,000 animals per year, officials said.

For the sixth consecutive year, residents in the Twin Cities northwest suburbs heading to the Minnesota State Fair will face limited options for weekday bus transit. Metro Transit confirmed that daily express bus service to the fairgrounds will not operate from the northwest suburbs during the week.

The results of a recount did not change the outcome of the Brooklyn Center mayoral primary election. The second and third-place candidates had been separated by just seven votes. For some students in Maple Grove, a new school year will mean a brand new building. The Osseo Area School District celebrated this week the opening of Aspen Ridge Elementary, the first new school built in the district in 20 years.

It was a primary election for the history books in Minnesota. A historic 25 percent of registered voters showed up to vote statewide on Aug. 11 with more than 1 million votes cast. Those record-setting trends were seen in the Twin Cities northwest metro, too, including in Brooklyn Park.

Two children were taken to the hospital by ambulance over the weekend after the e-bike they were riding collided with a car at a Brooklyn Park intersection, police said. The collision happened at around 3:10 p.m. on Saturday, at Pearson and Sierra parkways. At last check, the children were listed in stable condition, police said.

A group of parents in the Anoka-Hennepin School District have lost a court case that would have forced the district put a funding question on the November ballot. An Anoka County judge ruled that only the school board has the legal authority to call a special election and send a referendum to an election. The community group Parents for Good brought the case to court after it collected 3,200 signatures on a petition calling for a referendum.

A longtime salon that specializes in helping people experiencing hair loss has opened its doors at its new home in Plymouth. Owner Alisa Halek-Schoenack opened Nedia Hair Loss Salon on 36th Avenue in Plymouth. She says he wanted to make the experience special for those who need it.
