University of Minnesota commit and Benilde-St. Margaret’s junior forward Talla Hansen netted two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, to give the Red Knights girls hockey team a 2-1 win over Wayzata.

Wayzata’s goalkeeper Kylie Jaksha came up with 58 saves for the Trojans, who fall to 5-1 on the season.

The Wayzata boys basketball team won the program’s third state championship in five years when they defeated Cretin-Derham Hall in the 4A final last March.

Now the Trojans look to repeat their title with a good majority of their roster returning.

The Hopkins girls basketball team earned a 78-74 season-opening win Saturday over Providence Academy at the Breakdown Sports Tip-Off Classic.

The Royals had five players who scored in double figures. Jaliyah Diggs led the way with 23 points.

Maddyn Greenway scored a game-high 35 points, the loss for the Lions broke their 44-game winning streak dating back to the 2023 season.

The Crimson defeated Wayzata 4-2 on Friday and then beat Edina 4-3 in overtime on Saturday.

Moorhead- last year’s Class AA state champion- skated past Edina 6-3 Friday and then blanked Wayzata 7-0 Saturday

The Maple Grove girls basketball team had a historic season last winter, finishing as Class AAAA state runner-up.

Now a largely inexperienced Maple Grove team looks forward to the challenge of replacing the talent left behind.

The Wayzata girls basketball team won big in their season opener, beating Eagan 71-32. Annika Kieser scored 15 points, Kate Amelotte and Maren Day 12 and Mallory McBeth 11 to lead Wayzata.
