Justice Favor, Field Representative and Organizer with the Mason Tenders District Council and proud member of Laborers Local 79, shared a powerful message of support for Outreach and the life-changing work they do every day. Having witnessed the impact of substance abuse and mental health challenges among family and friends, Justice understands firsthand the importance of having access to resources, community, and a strong support system.

His message serves as a reminder that we all have a role to play in supporting one another. By investing in recovery, mentorship, and community-based programs, organizations like Outreach help transform lives and create pathways to hope, healing, and opportunity.
Thank you to Justice Favor, the Mason Tenders District Council, Laborers Local 79, and Outreach for continuing to pay it forward and ensuring that no one has to face life's challenges alone.

At the ULA Network, we believe that recovery, mental health, and community support are essential to building stronger families, workplaces, and communities.

"Veterans have already taken care of us. Now it's our turn to support them."

In this inspiring interview, Judaline Cassidy highlights the importance of creating opportunities for veterans as they transition into civilian life. From meaningful careers in the skilled trades to providing for their families, veterans deserve more than our gratitude, they deserve our support.

As a first-generation immigrant, Judaline shares her deep appreciation for those who have served the country and the impact they've had on the communities where we live and work.

That's why the work being done by the ULA Network is so important. By connecting veterans with opportunities, resources, and pathways into the skilled trades, we're helping turn appreciation into lasting support.

Together, we can turn appreciation into action.

For Michael Ekhoff, joining Local 1 was more than finding a job, it was finding a career.

As a new father and pre-apprentice bricklayer, Michael saw the union trades as an opportunity to build a better future for his family while developing valuable hands-on skills. His journey highlights how apprenticeship programs create pathways to long-term growth, stability, and success.

Michael's story is exactly why the ULA Network works to promote apprenticeship and workforce development opportunities. By connecting individuals with careers in the skilled trades, we're helping build stronger futures for workers, families, and communities.

Women Building the Future of Union Construction

The ULA Network was proud to attend the 2026 Equity Leadership Awards Luncheon honoring the incredible work of Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW) and the women who are breaking barriers throughout the unionized construction industry.

We had the opportunity to speak with Cassandra McCarthy, a Tile Apprentice with BAC Local 7 NY/NJ and proud graduate of NEW. Cassandra shared how the trades have provided her with opportunity, stability, lifelong friendships, and a pathway to a rewarding career.

Her advice to women considering a career in the skilled trades:
"Just go for it. What may seem intimidating today could become one of the best decisions of your life."

Cassandra recently helped complete work on the 39th floor of the Hard Rock Casino's Celebrity Tower in Atlantic City, showcasing the craftsmanship, dedication, and pride that union tradeswomen bring to every project.

Stories like Cassandra's remind us that apprenticeship programs, mentorship, and organizations like NEW are creating pathways for the next generation of skilled trades professionals while strengthening our workforce and communities.

The ULA Network remains committed to supporting, educating, and promoting career opportunities in the unionized construction trades and celebrating the women who are helping build our future.

America needs more skilled trades professionals—and investments in workforce development are helping build that future.

We applaud Bloomberg Philanthropies for launching a groundbreaking $90 million initiative that will help 15,000 high school students across seven states explore high-demand careers through hands-on training, technical education, and paid work experiences.

At the ULA Network, we believe exposing students to apprenticeship opportunities and the union skilled trades is critical to building a stronger workforce and stronger communities. Not every path to success requires a four-year degree. Skilled trades careers offer the opportunity to earn while you learn, develop valuable skills, and build a rewarding future.

Together, through partnerships between education, labor, employers, and community leaders, we can inspire the next generation of builders, makers, and skilled professionals who will power America's future.
