Where Story, Place & Creativity Meet — A Conversation with Jeremiah Young

The most compelling conversations about design go far beyond aesthetics. They explore why we create, how our experiences shape our perspective, and what transforms a space into a true sense of home.

In this episode of Beyond the Design, Jeremiah Young, Principal Designer and Owner of Kibler & Kirch - KIBLER & KIRCH joins hosts Cray Bauxmont-Flynn and Gunta Sandmeyer | Interiors + more for an engaging conversation about creativity, craftsmanship, history, and the extraordinary power of place.

Jeremiah’s unconventional journey—from studying English Literature and working as a librarian to fashion retail and ultimately leading one of the West’s most respected design firms—has given him a creative perspective entirely his own. His immense talent lies in bringing together architecture, textiles, antiques, art, craftsmanship, and storytelling to create interiors that feel layered, authentic, and deeply connected to the people who inhabit them.

Throughout their conversation, Jeremiah, Cray, and Gunta explore how personal history influences creative vision, why preserving the character of a place matters, and how great design can honor the past without becoming confined by it.

For Jeremiah, these influences become part of a larger creative vocabulary, allowing every project to tell a distinctive story while maintaining a powerful sense of belonging.

It’s a conversation about more than beautiful interiors. It’s about creating environments with soul—places where history, individuality, and everyday life can coexist beautifully.

The Power of Home, Heritage & Reinvention with Jeremiah Young

Sometimes the most extraordinary creative journeys aren’t planned—they unfold through curiosity, resilience, and an instinct for recognizing when opportunity meets purpose.

In this episode of Beyond the Design, hosts Cray Bauxmont-Flynn and Gunta Sandmeyer | Interiors + more welcome Jeremiah Young, Principal Designer and Owner of Kibler & Kirch KIBLER & KIRCH for an inspiring conversation about the meaning of home, preserving history, and building a creative legacy rooted in authenticity.

His path into the profession was anything but conventional. After studying English Literature, working as a librarian, and operating a clothing boutique, Jeremiah continued educating himself in interiors, architecture, textiles, and decorative arts. Then, in 2010, opportunity arrived in an unexpected way. When he learned that the founders of Kibler & Kirch were preparing to retire, Jeremiah acquired the very business he had admired since first walking through its doors as a teenager.

Rather than erase its past, he chose to build upon it.

Under Jeremiah’s leadership, Kibler & Kirch evolved from a respected retail destination into a dynamic full-service design firm, honoring its history while creating sophisticated residential and commercial environments throughout the West. His approach reflects an extraordinary sensitivity to place, provenance, craftsmanship, and storytelling—creating spaces that feel collected over time rather than manufactured in a moment.

From stewarding a 35-year-old design legacy to restoring a historic 1905 Victorian home, Jeremiah’s story demonstrates that great design can be an act of preservation and reinvention at the same time.

In this episode of Beyond the Design, host Cray Bauxmont-Flynn Cray Bauxmont-Flynn welcomes Amy for an inspiring conversation exploring her journey from growing up surrounded by art, construction, and craftsmanship to establishing a successful design practice defined by individuality, color, and fearless creativity.

With an interior designer and painter for a mother and a carpenter for a father, Amy understood from an early age that beautiful interiors require both artistic imagination and technical ex*****on. Those formative experiences became the foundation for a career that would eventually take her from Connecticut to New York City, where exposure to more adventurous clients encouraged her to embrace bold palettes, layered patterns, custom details, and a more expressive design vocabulary.

Beyond the Aesthetic — Building Trust Through Design

Exceptional interiors begin long before the first fabric is selected or a piece of furniture is placed. They begin with something far more important: trust.

In this insightful episode of Beyond the Design, host Cray Bauxmont-Flynn sits down with the extraordinarily talented Amy Courtney Amy Courtney Design for a compelling conversation about the relationship between designer and client—and why trust is one of the most powerful tools in the creative process.

For Amy, great design begins with listening. Understanding how clients live, what they value, what inspires them, and ultimately how they want their home to feel creates the foundation for a meaningful partnership. When clients feel heard and understood, they gain the confidence to embrace ideas, explore possibilities, and sometimes step beyond their comfort zones.

Together, Amy and Cray discuss how designers build that confidence through communication, transparency, expertise, and consistency. Trust isn’t established in a single presentation—it develops throughout the journey as a designer demonstrates that every recommendation, creative decision, and unexpected solution is rooted in the client’s best interests.

And that trust can unlock extraordinary creativity. When clients give designers the freedom to truly do what they do best, bold ideas can emerge, unexpected combinations can be explored, and a project can evolve into something neither could have imagined independently.

Ultimately, the strongest designer-client relationships are not simply transactional—they are creative collaborations built on mutual respect and a shared vision.
