There’s a new movie called out now. They used isomonstrosity “wake up” (instrumental) in the trailer.

Refresh: isomonstrosity is a pandemic symphony in rap and avant-pop created by Ellen Reid, Johan Lenox, Yuga Cohler, the International Contemporary Ensemble, and a bunch of other composers + vocalists. We released it in 2022/23.

The film is based on the graphic novel The One Hundred Nights of Hero by Isabel Greenberg which, in turn, was based on the MIddle Eastern folk tale the Middle Eastern folktale One Thousand and One Nights. The film features Charli XCX and many others.

Here are some words from group member Gideon Crevoshay about what this new record is about & how it came to be:

the ecstatic ephemerality of life has never been as potent as the time surrounding my father’s passing into the great unknown. it may sound strange, but I miss the clarity of that time. the awakened soul. these are songs of grief, of the love from which grief is born.

my father, stephen, gave those around him an immense gift in his graceful final dance. the only gift greater that he imparted on me, was his joyous love of music.

in the winter of 2022 we gathered in the deserted Atlantic shore of Strathmere, New Jersey to write. the stark landscape of frothy cold ocean, sand, stone, and reeds, provided the perfect landscape for the ineffable process of transmuting grief into art. oh the complete joys of grief. the spaces of the heart, the topographies broken open.

the following year we returned (twice) to the northeast kingdom of Vermont, where I was born and raised, and where my parents lived for about 50 years, a few miles from where my father was returned to the earth among trees at the edge of a forested hillside. in a house overlooking the Green Mountains, once in deep snow, once in radiant spring, we finished writing and recording the tunes on this album, each one a love letter to the lost and the re-encountered.
