As the federal government shutdown enters its first full week, Dr. Everett Kelley, President of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), tells Jenna Flanagan that thousands of federal workers forced to work without pay are “just a missed paycheck away” from crisis.

He calls on Congress to “open the government now” — warning that many of his 800,000 members live paycheck to paycheck and can’t afford to wait.

The latest episode of We Decide: America at the Crossroads also features insights from reporters Dave Levinthal and Laura Jedeed, plus updates from Pacifica’s KBOO and the NYCLU on nationwide civil rights concerns.

From the Soundboard is a program that usually focuses on concerts regardless of genre. This is where the artist and, or, group perfects the art of the “call and response” with its audience. On Tuesday, October 7, @ midnight, that’s Monday into Tuesday, we will air the highlights of the rally from Kingston, NY called the Peace and Freedom Rally sponsored by Occupy Freedom.

"Occupy Peace & Freedom is a not-for-profit movement to honor the Constitution and Bill of Rights, which are being continually violated by politicians who take us to war and rob us of our Freedoms to fulfill their agendas. More than just a movement, we have an Action Plan that will bring Peace, Freedom, and Prosperity." [ Mission Statement]

✈️ “Welcome aboard Flight 995.” Frenchie Davis takes us on a powerful journey through the turbulence of today’s America — from rising Black unemployment to the stripping of civil rights protections.

Drawing lessons from history — Jewish communities under fascism, enslaved Africans in hush harbors, the Negro Motorist Green Book — Frenchie asks: where are our safe spaces today, and how do we protect them in a fascist climate?

🚨 The seatbelt sign is lit. This isn’t just commentary, it’s a survival checklist.

🚨 Moral Monday-DC is heating up as labor and justice movements converge.

✊ Workers are demanding $40/hour with benefits on subsidized construction projects, while freelancers push for portable healthcare.

Meanwhile, as the siege of Gaza intensifies and Congress battles over Affordable Care Act subsidies, experts like James Henry and Dr. Joe Wilson weigh in on the global stakes. 📉🌍

📣 Rafael Espinal of the Freelancers Union reminds us: freelancers, like all workers, gain power by organizing together.

From the Soundboard will pay tribute to Assata Olugbala Shakur by rebroadcasting the program that originally aired on August 30, 2022 in commemoration of Black August.

"My name is Assata ("she who struggles") Olugbala ( "for the people" ) Shakur ("the thankful one"), and I am a 20th century escaped slave. Because of government persecution, I was left with no other choice than to flee from the political repression, racism and violence that dominate the US government's policy towards people of color. I am an ex political prisoner, and I have been living in exile in Cuba since 1984. I have been a political activist most of my life, and although the U.S. government has done everything in its power to criminalize me, I am not a criminal, nor have I ever been one." [Assata Shakur's own words]

🚨 T-Mobile is under fire.
The Communications Workers of America (CWA) has launched a nationwide boycott after the company walked back its DEI commitments and aligned itself with Donald Trump and Elon Musk in pursuit of FCC approvals.

In a powerful interview with Julianna Forlano, CWA President Claude Cummings Jr. calls out what he describes as a full-scale assault on union rights and freedom of speech.

📢 “The rights and freedoms our ancestors fought for are being shredded right before our eyes,” Cummings warns.
