Desert Island Thursday • Tiny Music... Songs From The Vatican Gift Shop

We here at kilScene are saddened to learn of the passing of former lead singer of the Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, Scott Weiland. May Scott find the peace in death that he couldn't find in life. God's choir section just got a little bit more awesome.

Nowadays, there's a new Stone Temple Pilots; one not featuring Scott Weiland on vocals, but Chester Bennington. However, back on March 26, 1996, Scott was still quite instrumental in the band. Yes ...

2013 saw the birth of another power rock duo worthy of inclusion into that pantheon of two-man bands who kick so much ass... It seems nowadays that bands have been forming and stopping at just two members. I mean, really, who needs the added headache of a bassplayer and rhythm guitarist? Just turn up the bass output on your amp and do it that way. [ 331 more words. ]

Happy 20th Anniversary Ham Fi**ed!!

Hello my fellow kilSters!

I don't know how it could've possibly happened, but I missed an important anniversary four days ago. One of my favorite bands to come out of that '90's alternative ether, Local H, celebrated 20 years since the release of their debut album, "Ham Fi**ed" on January 24th!

The band left their all and then some on their first offering and it more than shows. This is probably their most grunge sounding album, following the trend started by the then popular "Seattle Sound" machine, but that in no way diminishes how f**king great" Ham Fi**ed" was/is. Even after 20 years, and countless listens, the album still maintains that raw edge that it had when I first heard it back in 1995. Delve inside this here article and discover what I mean for yourselves!

Hello my fellow kilSters! How long has it been? It’s been for-f**king-ever, that’s how long. This long ass hiatus was forced as life got in the way of my doing what I love. Music has always been my passion and kilScene.com afforded me the opportunity to spread my love to the masses and then after August 28nd, 2014, everything f**king stalled. Life got in the way ladies and gents of kilScenedom, but as of today, January the 23rd, 2015, I’m happy to say that we are back!! Not only are we back, we are back with a f**king shotgun blast to the face BANG!

Back on August 4th of last year, kilScene had the great fortune to be granted a face to face interview with one of the pioneers of the SoCal punk scene, Mr. Jay Bentley of BAD RELIGION!! Anyone that knows me knows that it was Bad Religion that turned me on to the genre that has dominated my life for over 20 years and it really is all thanks to them that my love for the genre has flourished as it has, but no matter what new punk rock crunchiness comes my way, Bad Religion will always reign supreme in my book. It’s a long time since that balmy August day standing in front of New York’s famed Terminal 5 with one of my punk rock heroes, but as they say, better late than never. On with the show!

Hello my fellow kilSters! Hunter McLeod has done it again with his fine tuned ear! Hunter has a knack for introducing our fellow readers to artists that, quite simply come alive with the touch of his keyboard. Today’s special treat is an artist named Lydia Loveless. Is she country? Is she punk? Who gives a damn about the label?! The point is that she’s very good and I’m sure one listen and you’ll agree. Discover for yourselves just how good she is as Mr. Hunter McLeod continues to enrich all our lives with good music that’s damn worth your time.

The 90's And The Decline Of Music

Hello my fellow kilSters! I know that I promised you part one of my “I’m In Love With Two Guys Both Named Neil” piece, but as I was watching one of my most favorite rock DVD’s last night, I got angry. More than angry, I was f**king livid! I started to remember how good we had it. Rock music was everything in the 90’s. It was the driving force, nay, the lifeblood of the music industry, and what happened? It all got replaced with pre-packaged, pretentious pop princes and princesses somewhere at the tail end of the 90’s and it’s only gone down hill since then. So yeah, I’m angry. I invite you now to share in my anger and look back with me on a genre left for dead, when in fact, it’s anything but.

Got You Cover'd • Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon

It’s been a long, long, long time my lovlies! I have no excuse and I’ve missed you all dearly, but kilScene is back and better than ever. We ingratiate ourselves back into your hearts and minds the best way we know how. Great music reporting by kilScene’s own, Hunter McLeod! For our first piece back, we have a special edition of Got You Cover’d featuring Urge Overkill’s great cover of that Neil Diamond classic, “Girl, You’ll Be A Woman Soon”!

Urge Overkill first released their version of the song back in 1992, but it wasn’t until musical eared wunderkind, Quentin Tarantino featured it in his smash film, “Pulp Fiction”, that the song really started to make waves for the band. Oh, we’ve missed you so. Dive right in, won’t you?

Dead Sara • Let Rock Reign

Dead Sara, a band out of the City of Angels has made quite the impression on kilScene’s own Hunter McLeod, and with good reason too. The band brings the thunder with their brand of rock and one can’t help but smile ever so brightly over the wave of nostalgia that will wash over you once you give Dead Sara a listen. Music was made to be felt, and you’ll surely feel Dead Sara up (pun intended.)
