New Retro Rock & Roll session is now live: Gigantic by the Pixies.

The Pixies formed in Boston in the late 1980s, blending punk energy with melodic, off-kilter songwriting that helped shape what we now call alternative rock. Gigantic was released in 1988 on their album Surfer Rosa and features bassist Kim Deal on lead vocals. It’s known for its hypnotic groove, simple driving bass line, and a chorus that explodes with emotion and attitude. Over the years, the song has become a standout fan favorite and a defining track of the band’s catalog.

This past weekend, we were honored to have Ms. Maggie Arak on vocals for our cover of Gigantic by Pixies. The lineup—Carlito on drums, Ralph on bass, and Dan and Jaiden on guitar—rounded out an awesome session. Here are a few photos from the day. The video drops next week. New Retro Rock & Roll video is out now: Every Rose Has Its Thorn by Poison.

Released in 1988, this song became one of Poison’s biggest hits and a defining power ballad of the era. Known for its heartfelt lyrics and acoustic-driven sound, it captured the softer side of a band mostly recognized for their high-energy rock anthems.

In our session, we kept the spirit of the original while bringing our own live energy to it. This performance was all about raw emotion and capturing the feel of the song as if you were in the room with us.

This week we took on Blue Öyster Cult’s classic Don’t Fear the Reaper, and I’ve got to be honest, it was one of the toughest songs we’ve tried so far. That break section in the middle really kept us on edge. It’s not just about playing the notes right, it’s about locking in together and keeping the feel alive.

There were moments where it felt like the song was almost slipping away, but that’s exactly what made it so intense and rewarding. You could feel everyone in the room digging deeper, really concentrating, and when we finally pulled it off, the energy completely shifted. It was one of those moments where you look around and know you’ve all been through something together.

This is a full one-take, raw live performance. We only spend about an hour or so practicing each song together, so there are going to be mistakes. But that’s part of what makes it real, and why we love doing these sessions.

This month, we’re bringing you Heartbreaker by Pat Benatar, a track that hit the airwaves in 1979 and quickly became one of the most powerful rock anthems of the era. From its opening riff to its soaring vocals, it’s a song that demands energy, attitude, and just the right amount of grit.

We had a blast putting our spin on this one in the living room studio, capturing that raw, live-in-the-room feel that keeps us coming back for more. No tricks, no safety net, just a group of musicians playing their hearts out for the love of it.

Thank you for supporting live music and independent artists. Every view, share, and kind word helps keep this going, and we couldn’t do it without you.
