Using guitar pedals with your DAW is a great way to add some different textures to your mix. There are a few reasons for this, sometimes it is a down to the sound but often it is more down to being able to physically interact with the pedal- to essentially ‘play the pedal’. Plus, it can be a lot...

Apple Silicon - How This Will Affect You And Other Audio Professionals | Production Expert

This is very big news for most audio professionals. For a long time now I’ve been building my own PC’s with custom tailored components dialed out to my intensive CPU needs. Although I’m conditioned to the Mac OS, I’ve always found their products to be over priced and full of bells and whistles that not only were unnecessary for an audio or video professional. But also extremely cumbersome and clunky.

When the choice is to buy a fully loaded Mac Pro for $8000, or build your own faster custom PC for $1700. It’s a no-brainer for me. And on top of that you can overclock the CPU chip and squeeze every last bit of processing power out. You can fill your chassis with extra acoustically quiet fans at lower revolutions to keep noise down. you can pick a motherboard with loads of connectivity and USB / thunderbolt ports. Meanwhile these higher priced Macs run slower, hotter, and louder.

Yes it’s always a PITA to modify Kext files to get your “Hackintosh” working with the latest Mac OS and I typically stay one OS behind the current one for safety sake. Also it’s no easy task to troubleshoot yo to own issues seeing as their is no customer support in the Hackintosh world. But the benefits have always outweighed the cons! Knowing that apples prices won’t be dropping anytime soon, I refuse to pay their exorbitant prices for a computer that is built “one size fits all.”

Once apple stops supporting Intel processors for good.....
I hate to say it but most likely I will be switching to windows very soon. Sigh.

Very pricey at times... but really worth it! I have a few Neve Pre’s and some API’s and they weren’t cheap but I can’t live without them.

Understanding the Different Frequency Ranges

The frequency spectrum can be confusing and feel overwhelming when looked at as a whole. But like most things it becomes much more manageable when broken into smaller pieces.

Here’s a nice explanation of how to approach this.

https://www.masteringthemix.com/blogs/learn/understanding-the-different-frequency-ranges?utm_source=Mastering+The+Mix&utm_campaign=d660e9fd76-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_11_10_02_50_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_26c8443056-d660e9fd76-563431405&mc_cid=d660e9fd76&mc_eid=fc56bdfedb

For most people, the audible hearing spectrum ranges from about 20 Hz to 20 kHz. That’s roughly 20,000 different frequencies to deal with in any given track—from the deepest kick drum the brightest cymbals and strings. Thankfully, by breaking the full frequency spectrum into smaller frequency ra...
