Tiffany Score and Steven Mills spent years trying to have a child through IVF at the Fertility Center of Orlando. In December, Score gave birth to a daughter, Shea. But as soon as Shea came out, the couple knew something had gone awry. Tiffany and Stephen were white folks, and Shea was most certainly not. Genetic testing later confirmed what was plain to see: Shea was not biologically related to either Tiffany or Stephen, and was genetically South Asian.

Turns out, the fertility clinic had apparently implanted a different couple’s embryo into Tiffany, an embryo that she then carried, delivered, and has now bonded with, even though it is genetically someone else’s baby entirely.

Cue the legal battle and the search for Shea’s biological parents, who were found, miraculously enough. Even more miraculously, somehow, despite the absurd circumstances, both families have reached an amicable, compassionate resolution to the problem, essentially deciding that it’s not a problem for either of them.

A Chinese woman's diet involved restricting herself to 800 calories on weekdays, eating small amounts of boiled vegetables, chicken breast, and fruit, then spending Sundays eating freely, hotpot, fried chicken, spicy noodles, milk tea, whatever she wanted.

It worked extremely well, as she lost nearly 17 pounds in one month. Unfortunately it also gave her acute pancreatitis.

Let’s say you have an identical twin. You grow up in the same house, attend the same school, share the exact same genes. But you become the target of a bully during your pre-teen years, while your sibling somehow escapes the taunts and abuse. The next two years may start to look very different for you and your sibling.

Researchers say bullied children are more likely to have a wide range of troubles by the age of 13 than their non-bullied siblings. They are more often anxious and depressed, and even have more paranoid thoughts and other early signs of more severe mental illnesses like schizophrenia.

The common wisdom was that if you were stressed out, spending some time with a beloved pet might do you some good. But according to new research published in Frontiers in Psychology, it might be a bit more complicated than that.

A survey of 2,000 Americans found that one in four people say a dream or nightmare led to a major life change, like leaving a job or ending a relationship. Sixty-seven percent believe both good dreams and bad ones hold deeper significance, and 37% say a dream has come true in some form.

A psychologist who sought to study the relationship between childhood stress and certain immune system markers found something much more revealing. Seth Pollak had been studying the same group of people for decades as they grew up, and discovered that high levels of stress during childhood can predict poor decision-making skills as an adult.

Notably, however, their everyday lives seemed not to affect their behaviors in the lab. Pollak found that current life stress was not correlated with poor decision-making. Only childhood stress was. “So we know it’s a childhood experience from decades ago that is influencing people’s current decision-making, not what’s going on in their lives right now. That’s very powerful.”

Steve Carell has openly talked about on numerous occasions his struggles with hyperhidrosis (or excessive sweating).

In his 2015 memoir, Rainn Wilson revealed that, in order to keep Carell’s overactive sweat glands from erupting “like Vesuvius,” the temperature on-set was kept at just 64 degrees.

Things are heating up in Antarctica, and not in a good way. Temperatures at Argentina's Esperanza research station hit a record-breaking 59.7°F on June 6, smashing the old winter high by more than 3 degrees.

Climate researchers working on the Antarctic Peninsula reported the spike to The Guardian, and the numbers are hard to ignore. Scientists say the heat was about 36°F warmer than what's normal for this time of year. The warm spell stuck around too, with temperatures staying above freezing for three straight weeks. Multiple research stations across Antarctica recorded similar record highs, which rules out the idea that this was just one weird fluke.

Researchers on the ground saw the effects firsthand. On King George Island, land that should be buried under snow instead showed patches of grass, rock, and bare dirt. Rain fell in spots where snow should have been the only option. Glaciologists climbing the Collins Glacier expected thick layers of solid ice and found melting ice instead, a clear sign that something unusual is happening across the continent.
