Behind the release: Colour Theory.

About that Krylon colour rabbit hole 👇

I went deep on vintage spray paint research for the ROACHI ‘Bones’ drop. Here’s where I ended up.

Luke (Artillery): When I first picked up a spray can in 1995, I was using Australian Exports and White Knights from Kmart. The valves were weird, the nozzles were trash, but it’s what we had. Once I got my hands on the book Subway Art, I saw what NY writers were using. I pulled out the phone book and called every hardware store in my area.

“Hi, do you have Krylon, Rust-Oleum, Red Devil, or Wet Look spray paint?”

Eventually, a Mitre 10 said, “we’re getting Krylon in next month.” I still remember walking into that store for the first time. The rack adorned with ‘Krylon – No Runs. No Drips. No Errors.’ So dope!

For the ‘Bones’ drop, since ROACHI is based in NY now, I wanted to throwback even further – into the colours NY writers were flossing off the racks in the late 70s and early 80s. Every ink on this drop is pulled from a Borden-era Krylon dealer colour chart (courtesy: )

🟡 Bright Yellow – Krylon 1804
🟠 Burnt Orange – Krylon 2406
⚪ Antique White – Krylon 1503

👀 The full story – the research, the rabbit hole, how I landed on this specific chart – is up on the blog. Link in bio.

⏳ Our ROACHI ‘Bones’ release (in tees and hoods) ends tomorrow. Don’t sleep.
