What’s YOUR hockey lore? 🏒 I’ve always been a hockey fan, but the Montreal Canadiens - aka, Les Canadiens de Montréal - are in my blood, spirit and soul.

My great-grandfather, Eugene “Peter” Payan, played for the Montreal Canadiens in their inaugural NHA season for four years, well before the Habs joined the NHL in 1917. He wore a different hockey sweater every season, leading to a strong hockey jersey history as well.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend so far - happy Memorial Day to my American friends, happy F1 weekend to my fellow Canadians (and happy belated Victoria Day), and happy Sunday to all who are just enjoying the day.

As I’ve been working on the next in-depth jersey post (the last one took 200 graphics, oof), I wanted to share a small story about my own hockey history and connection to the Montreal Canadiens. Watching the team, especially this playoff run, really makes me think about my family and our personal connections on and off the ice.

I’d love to hear what connects you to hockey or sport in general - as when sports are at their best they can be a force for community and connection.

Nothing like starting an upcycling project by making a whole new project so you can have a textile on hand instead of buying a new one! 🧵I want to make some bolsters and pillows but didn’t want to buy new fabric so I used what I had on hand - leftover dye, old cotton sheets, some metal poles from other DIY work, elastics and not enough tarps to protect my space (oops). I’m obsessed with how this fabric turned out and I’m trying to resist the urge to dye my actual bed sheets because it’s tricky without a big sink and giant poles! I split a twin top sheet in half and dyed that along with a pillow case. Let me know what you think!❤️‍🔥

The Winter Olympics start this Friday and in honour of all the snowy aesthetics I’ve finally launched my YouTube channel. My first video breaks down some of the rules surrounding hockey jerseys for the men’s, women’s and Paralympic teams. Then we get into an overview and my opinionated analysis about the jerseys in group A - Canada, Czechia, Switzerland and France. Spoiler alert: I have a lot of strong feelings surrounding Team Canada’s gear. Happy gotcha day to my soul dog . It’s been two years since I picked her up from her foster and brought her home in her first of many Ubers and it’s honestly hard to imagine my life before her. She’s the biggest flirt (I think my grandmothers’ are alive in her as she‘s determined to find me a man), a top tier cuddle queen, a great adventure buddy and a clear boundaries enforcer. Who knew a dog could match my energy so well? She’s never met a slice of cheese or couch she doesn’t love and taught me to embrace my ambivert and empathetic side, cheered on my workouts and reminded me to rest. I’ve been able to meet so many people and animals and see different sides of my neighbourhood, NYC and wherever our trips take us. Being a self-employed WFH working immigrant can sometimes feel isolating - but I’ve never felt alone since she’s come into my life. ❤️🥹🐾 Studio 📸 aka Noodle’s Mom
