{Important announcement} With what seems to be a constant barrage of negative news stories, we wanted to try something fun that everyone in America (and maybe around the world?) could participate in while under quarantine. So, we’re putting on the world’s first and hopefully not annual Quarantine Film Festival. The catch is that all films MUST be made while under quarantine and only with the people you are quarantining with! We really want to see what you all come up with! Be creative! It’s 100% free to submit your film and there are absolutely no catches. We simply want people to have a fun time while I’m these stressful situations. So film on your iPhone! Or film on your Red or Alexa (but only if it is already inside your quarantine zone). We’ll be awarding the best film $500 and we are going to try to get more businesses involved who want to award prizes as well. So visit the link in profile (www.wearefilms.com/quarantine) and submit your film today! There’s lots more info on the link. Deadline is April 15th. Remember to follow CDC guidelines at all times.

The Oldest Man In The Sea

In 2012 we lugged all of our film gear over to Ireland in search of an inspiring story to make a short documentary about. The crazy thing is, we went there without knowing at all what the story was going to be or even who we were going to film. We landed and immediately started scouring the country for an interesting story and an interesting character.

After about a week, we found ourselves down in a small coastal town called Castletown Bearhaven. It was beautiful, remote, and not a tourist in sight. At this point, we had already been searching for a week for our character, but hadn't found the perfect person. While sitting in various restaurants and pubs in the area, three seperate people told us legendary stories about a man named Pat Murphy. He sounded as if he was the most interesting character in Ireland. Everyone had great stories about Pat, but no one knew where he was. So we went on a search to find him.

Someone told us the general area where they thought he lived. We literally went door to door knocking and asking whoever answered if they were Pat Murphy. "No, sorry". "Nope". "Not here". We really weren't sure if we were ever going to find him.

Suddenly, a door opened and the kindest Irish lady opened the door. We asked if Pat Murphy lived there and she happily explaimed "Yes, I'm his wife! But he's out at sea for another 3 days." We let her know that we are filmmakers from NYC and are there to film a documentary about him, because we hear he's extremely interesting. She happily agreed and asked us to come back in 3 days when he gets back from his sea excursion.

When we made it back in a few days, we were so excited to meet Pat and he was everything and more than we could have ever imagined. We basically just turned on the cameras and let him talk his mind. We spent time out on the sea with him and he kindly let us into his home and into his life.

This was such an exciting experience for us. We loved letting him tell his story and creating this video for him, which can hopefully be passed on for generations within his family and community.

Pat Murphy is one of the reasons we started We Are Films. After we heard his story and his excitment for telling it, we realized that there are people just like him all over the world with the same kind of passion just waiting to have their story told. It's stories like this that bring joy to the world, but more imporantly joy to communities and families of the characters. It's something tangible and inspiring that they can be proud of.

Thanks for accepting us into your life, Pat.

Storyboard vs. final product

A well planned out shoot is a happy shoot. Here’s a side by side comparison of our storyboards next to the final produce for our The Trade Desk shoot last year. Although, not every project requires exact storyboards like this.

A21

Today is #HumanTraffickingAwarenessDay and A21 is officially launching the Can You See Me Now? campaign in the USA with this video we directed, produced, filmed, and edited. This was one of the most emotionally intense shoots we've ever done due to its intense subject matter. Thank you to the US Department of Justice and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children for your consultation in creating this film.

Give the video a watch and remember to share it to help raise awareness.

TODAY on #HumanTraffickingAwarenessDay, we’re launching our global awareness campaign #CanYouSeeMe in the USA. This film was produced in consultation with the U.S. Department of Justice and National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. ⠀

There is a growing concern of child sexual exploitation in U.S. schools. Minors are often recruited through social media, a friend, or a pimp posing as a boyfriend. Modern-day #slavery still exists. And if you suspect it, report it. ⠀

Spread the word. Raise awareness for #humantrafficking. Share this video. Learn more: CanYouSeeMe.net
