If you’ve spent some time around me, you’ll know how much I love YouTube.

In the age of perfectionism, we lose those unseen moments that make us human.

Everything about our lives that we broadcast is fits in a little screen, and lets everyone know you have made it, you have the perfect existence.

But life isn’t perfect. Life is vulnerable. Life is full of mistakes. Life is full of surprises. Life happens all around us and to put that into a in a little box isn’t life, is it?

What I love about YouTube is the ability to share your life, and make a friend along the way. To share your vulnerability. To share your surprises. To share more than a few seconds with a new friend, and let them know they don’t have to be perfect because that’s not how life is. Life is unexpected. Life is planned, but doesn’t always go to plan.

I made this YouTube video not as a document, but also as common grounds for anyone in the creative industry to let them know I see you. We see you. I made this YouTube video to give back to the platform that I resonate with most, and to celebrate all the wonderful moments I had at the studio with all of my friends and beautiful family.

This video isn’t short, it has over 780 clips that I shot over the course of a month, but life isn’t short. Progress isn’t short. Good stories are not short.

At the very end of the video is hundreds of BTS photos that I’ve taken over the last five years at the studio. If you’ve been on set with Chelsea and I in that time, I’m so proud of the art we have made together. The studio would never have been the same without you.

These 20 images are a snapshot of the month long process of cleaning and closing the studio.

I hope you enjoy, and as always, be well.❤️

Ever since Chelsea & I moved to NYC in 2011, the dream was always simple.

Have a studio we could call our own. Make amazing work alongside our friends and clients.

In 2019, we were lucky enough to make that dream real.

But every opportunity comes with a set of commitments you don’t see coming. Some were small at first. Then slowly, without realizing it — we didn’t own the studio anymore.

The studio owned us.

It owned our time. Instead of brainstorming, imagining, daydreaming about the work we loved most — we were mopping. We were sifting through the mail room for one little package. We had become employees of the thing we built.

So we made a decision.

Our commitment isn’t to the studio. It’s to creativity. To passion. To doing what we set out to do from day one — making amazing work alongside the people we love.

This chapter taught us so much. And we’re not done. 💡🤔📸

So excited to have this image featured on the cover of Spring Food Issue! 🍊💫

This image was a result of Chelsea and I wanting to create some personal work in the studio. Inspired by the winter citrus season and the anticipation of spring, we dedicated a few weeks to brainstorming and mood boarding. Ultimately it took us a few days in the studio trying different compositions before we landed on this image.

We sourced several real citrus trees from Florida to ensure we had a variety of branches and leaves to play with on set. After finding our hero branch we used a soft glowing light source to enhance the color and texture of the oranges and used silver cards to reflect and highlight the natural shine of the leaves.

We were inspired by the style and colors of vintage botanical illustrations often found in encyclopedias and wanted to emulate that feeling through the beige background and delicate styling.

We knew we wanted a perfect citrus flower in the image but they proved very difficult to source even with ordering live trees. In the end, we rented a model from a fantastic model maker in England, . We frequently rent other fruits from them for our commercial shoots.

Thank you for the feature !
