A Cavalcade of Kays (plus a lone Marvel)! Each different, all awesome.
“Cocaine & Rhinestones” Returns, to Dazzle Again
In its second season, the one-man show argues that the story of George Jones is the story of country music itself.
Planning to start the deep dive into Season Two today. This, of course, is going to be good...
Season two of Tyler Mahan Coe's "Cocaine & Rhinestones" podcast focuses on country great George Jones: "His chest cavity glowed with so much air."
CR015/PH01 - Starday Records: The Anti-Nashville Sound | Cocaine & Rhinestones
The story of a little independent record label in Texas becoming "a force" in the Nashville country music industry brings an outsider's perspective to the anatomy of a machine.

Celebrated fiddler, mandolinist and Minnesota music legend Peter Ostroushko has died. He was 67. Ostroushko’s career and range was widespread and eclectic — he appeared on Bob Dylan’s legendary “Blood on the Tracks” album, played with the Minnesota Orchestra and was a regular on A Prairie ...
Holy Moly! Jules is going to sell a lot of Texan guitars with this video. I (Brad Klein) haven't played electric for decades, and I want one! But I'm smart enough (barely) to know what kind of player he is, and how much his own unique musicality shines through every note of this tune. There's so much more here than a combination of instrument and amplifier.
I had not heard this news.

Tony Trischka and Michael Daves doing their best to keep up on the sartorial front with Bluegrass Legend Bobby Osborne! These times of very limited gigs are a great chance to study music with your heroes, and both Tony and MD are experienced online teachers. Just sayin'
Big happy birthday to the great Bobby Osborne- bluegrass innovator, long time Grand Ole Opry member, and one of the finest tenor singers of all time. I had to great honor of interviewing Bobby in 2019 for my bluegrass vocals school on ArtistWorks. We talked about his amazing history in the music, keeping his voice in top shape, and sang some songs including Ruby, Nine Pound Hammer, and Making Plans. That footage is now available to watch (for subscribers) so come on over and hear what this legend has to say!

Hello friends of the Beds, Jefferson here. I'll be playing a livestream this Wednesday, leaning more trad than my previous efforts. Happy to be a part of this series put on by Tom Rota and the folks at Blue in Portland, Maine. Please stop in if you're up for it - 8PM Maine time (EST with daylight savings correction, not sure of the acronym).
Wow! Can't believe it's been five years since I (Brad Klein) sat down for a coffee with Sarah on the Upper West Side of Manhattan for the lovely chat that became this story. The pandemic's been so hard on some of our favorite musicians. Don't forget to support them with a music or march purchase if you have the $$$.
Sarah Jarosz has been on our radar since at least the Spring of 2008, when the then-16-year-old signed with Sugar Hill Records. She'd already played with the Austin Symphony Orchestra, and appeared in a cameo with Earl Scruggs and Ricky Skaggs as part of the 2005 Country Music Association Festival.....
Fifteen years ago today, Nov. 15, 2005, DeFord Bailey was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. (the CMHoF was started in the 1960s) He was arguably the first musician to play the Grand Ole Opry and certainly one of its first big stars. The story I wrote for Mandolin Cafe features music and interviews by Mike Compton and Michael Daves.
There's a small number of Queens Gambit viewers out there, who keep waiting for Anna Taylor Joy to break into a blazing bluegrass guitar solo. Or maybe just me...
Bluegrass Guitarist Chris Eldridge Named Visiting Faculty at Oberlin | Oberlin College and Conservatory
Punch Brothers founding member will teach college and conservatory students beginning in January 2021.
A touching moment involving Dolly Parton and Stephen Colbert. "As Parton sings the song originally written by Michael Daves and Chris Thile in 1926, Colbert is in awe. He looks off-screen and says to someone, “I have goosebumps.” " I too, have goosebumps!
These ArtistWorks Live events always have surprising pleasures! Check it out...

My tribute to Trini! Back in 2013, I was doing social media work for Retrofret Vintage Guitars. That's where I met 'Captain' Kirk Douglas of The Roots. He was making this Gibson Trini Lopez scream and fretting a bit about bringing it home with him. I think that the phrase, 'my girlfriend will kill me...' was uttered, which frankly surprised me! -Brad
We had a visit last week from 'Captain' Kirk Douglas of The Roots, and he was kind enough to say a few words about the store. "The thing about Retrofret is that you can get on the most beautiful gear tangents. I came in looking for a Fender Deluxe and had no intention of falling in love with this Gibson Skylark [1964 GA-5T Tube Amp]." Kirk alternated playing his own SG Custom, and our 1967 Trini Lopez, and they both just screamed through the tiny Skylark. "It has THAT sound. I love coming here... but i don't want to have to come here every time I want to hear THAT sound." Kirk walked out with the Skylark under his arm, but the Trini is still looking for a new home. https://www.retrofret.com/products.asp?ProductID=5983&CartID=
