Update to the Case/Mill Street water main replacement. Unfortunately along with the road closure, there is a need to shut off water to the area on Monday and Tuesday during the day. It will be turned back on Monday evening for the night. Shut off will be Monday 9/19 and Tuesday 9/20 from 8 am to 6pm. We are terribly sorry for the inconvenience but this is necessary to continue the drinking water distribution. Any questions can be directed to the office at 517-592-2591. Jim and Linda Neely, of Brooklyn, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 12, 2022. The couple was married in Linda’s hometown of L’Anse, Michigan, on August 12, 1972, in the Lutheran Church.

Both attended and graduated from Western Michigan University. After college, they returned to the Brooklyn community, and Linda was employed by the Columbia School District as a 3rd and 4th-grade teacher at Miller Elementary in Cement City, finishing up her teaching career as a 6th-grade teacher at the Columbia Middle School in Brooklyn.

Jim was self-employed as a cabinet maker and finish carpenter, and he also performed first person/living history programs throughout the state of Michigan on early Michigan History and the Civil War for over 30 years.

The couple now resides in Brooklyn and spend their winters in Sahuarita, Arizona.

Musicians Mike Evans and Matt Dale of Railcar Graffiti recently played in front of Shady’s in downtown Brooklyn and did not mind being paid with a drink or two from appreciative listeners. Evans and Dale will return to Shady’s Saturday night from 7 to 10 p.m. with their band mates for an album release party, and the public is encouraged to come and check them out.

A record crowd for the summer was on hand at the Cambridge Junction Historic State Park / Walker Tavern Historic Site for a bluegrass concert by Next Paige. Concert organizer Laurie Perkins said over 110 people were in attendance taking in the live music on a beautiful evening.

In my opinion, "The Back Page", "Never apologize for having an opinion", was very well written and an excellent article! One sentence really struck me personally. "None of us has the corner on absolute truth." I need to keep that in mind for myself. I do not envy the position that your job puts you in Matt Schepeler, but I do think you do one heck of a great job!

I noticed the picture this week of Leland "Pinky" VanCamp... Pinky worked as a butcher at Bill's IGA back in the 60's. I believe he was also at Bill & Joe"s before that but not really sure. Maybe John or Roger Messmer could tell you that.I worked with him from 65 though 68.
