Nublu Records

Nublu Records Nublu Records started in 2005 in NYC and has established itself as a weighty curator and tastemaker in the independent music scene. The list goes on and on.

Nublu is a unique club and record label from the cultural epicenter of New York City, the East Village. There are three entities of the Nublu universe, a live music venue, a record label, and a recently launched Nublu Jazz Festival which has premiered in NYC, Sao Paul and Istanbul. The venue was birthed first in 2002. It started out as a place for like-minded musicians and artists to gather and si

mply play music together, recalling New York in its creative heyday of the 70's and 80's. Nublu has come a long way since its humble beginnings. The club has attracted the admiration of many people and has been touted everywhere from the New York Times to Paper magazine. It is no surprise to come across Lou Reed at the bar, Kevin Spacey or Jorge Ben hanging out, or Norah Jones dancing to Forro. Last year, Jovanotti, the Italian superstar, chose Nublu as the place for his residency. The venue was filled to over capacity for eight straight weeks. Legendary artists like, Gilberto Gil and David Byrne have also done secret shows, and Moby said he realized that he "had more fun DJ'ing records for 75 people at Nublu than going on tour and performing in front of 10,000 people a night" XLR8R Magazine (2008). The second arm of Nublu is the record label, which started in 2005 as a necessary outlet to release the music coming out of the club. The label now boasts a catalogue of over 50 releases, from music ranging from Brazilian acts 3 Na Massa, Otto and Forro in The Dark, to the jazz stylings of I Led 3 Lives and Nublu Orchestra, the indie pop of Hess is More and Wax Poetic. Between all of its entities, Nublu has established itself as a weighty curator and tastemaker in the independent music scene. There is no one sound to Nublu, just a vibe and a great selection. Nublu owner Ilhan Ersahin says it best, "We're just playing music."

The full digital album of Bluery the Explorer’s third album, Clear Blue Mind, is out today! The vinyl release will be along in the summer.

We are very excited about this project and invite you to read on to hear about what makes this project so special. Enjoy!

Exploratory music project, Blurry the Explorer unveils its third album, Clear Blue Mind. A vibrant, genre-defying collection born from improvisation, coincidence, and creative discovery in Rio de Janeiro. Recorded at the legendary Marini Studio in the Botafogo neighborhood, the 10-track album expands the project’s borderless sonic world with contributions from an international cast including Rodrigo Amarante (Brazil), Tenniscoats (Japan), Annakalmia Traver (Rubblebucket, Kalbells), and Lola Parda (Argentina).

Following tours and intensive work with legendary Brazilian producer Kassin, Gustin assembled core collaborators Ricardo Dias Gomes (Caetano Veloso), guitarist Ryan Dugre (Rubblebucket, Joan As Police Woman), and producer/guitarist Leo Abrahams (Brian Eno, Paul Simon) for focused but spontaneous recording sessions embracing intuition, chance, and the joy of not knowing where the journey leads.

“More often than not, the songs are born out of improvising over simple ideas one of us brings,” Gustin explains. “We always leave space for...something. This unknown element is always exciting and confusing.”

The album’s diverse vocal palette creates what Gustin describes as “a full world of colors, shapes and sounds.” From Rodrigo Amarante’s intimate storytelling to Tenniscoats’ ethereal harmonies, Annakalmia Traver’s expressive range, and Lola Parda’s haunting beauty, each voice brings distinct character to the sonic journey. Vocalists Katy Pinke, Lip Talk, Tall Juan, and Tigra Rose (recorded in a Bali hostel after a traditional Hindu puppet show) round out the international ensemble.

Out today everywhere digitally!

We are so excited for this funky soulful instrumental album debut of Guri Assis Brasil as Animal Invisível to release finally. The Vinyl will be along in late June / early July. Until then please give the album a listen on you favorite platform and read a bit more about it below.

Album Biography:
This debut album began to take shape during the pandemic, with a title inspired by the “invisible threat” that put the world on alert. The record evokes a time of uncertainty and introspection. However, the compositions transcend the pandemic context, taking the listener on a deep and expansive musical journey where rhythmic power and groove act as guides. Here, the threat is transmuted into strength.

To bring these tracks to life, Guri assembled an exceptional lineup of musicians, resulting in an album that feels like a powerful Jam Session, full of nuances. Guri’s guitar serves as the point of convergence for layers of sound where, at times, percussion, a pulsing bass line, a vibrant horn section, or psychedelic elements from keyboards and synths come to the forefront. Although instrumental, the album also features vocoder experiments on some tracks.

Artist Biography:
Guitarist Guri Assis Brasil was born on the border between Brazil and Uruguay, bringing to his music the rich cultural intersection of that region. He began his career in 2001, in Porto Alegre, as a member of the band Pública, with which he released four albums and was twice nominated for the MTV VMB Awards (2007 and 2009).

Since 2010, living in São Paulo, he has expanded his work as both a studio and live musician, collaborating with major names in Brazilian music such as Otto, Céu, Criolo, Luiz Melodia, and Angela Rô Rô. He also recorded guitars for acclaimed projects such as “Pele do Futuro” by Gal Costa, and “Orquestra Frevo do Mundo, Vol. 1”, featuring Caetano Veloso, Duda Beat, among others.

Today, a new cycle begins! Thirty years in with an album that looks forward while reclaiming its origins.

Ten years after his last release, the acclaimed Fortaleza, Fernando Catatau returns with Cidadão Instigado, a self-titled album that marks both the 30th anniversary of the project and the beginning of an entirely new creative phase, conceived and led by Catatau alone. The record is out now through the RISCO label in partnership with Nublu Records.
This is not a retrospective. It is a reinvention that knows exactly where it comes from.

How It Was Made
The album was born from Catatau’s inner world during pandemic isolation, a period of heightened introspection that collided unexpectedly with a new obsession: a Roland MV-8800 sampler, newly acquired, that sent him deep into the universe of beats and electronic music. He built tracks for what he calls “unconventional dancers,” navigating the mental and sensory turbulence of the moment with the discipline of someone who had been making music for three decades.

The result speaks directly to contemporary urban life and the cultural multiplicity of the Brazilian metropolis. Electronic timbres and digital noise merge with a way of singing that belongs to the street, the dance floor, the random late-night walk, and the underground dive, always in counterpoint to the natural world: moon, clouds, sea, air. Present and futuristic. Profound and dancefloor-ready.

The Collaborators
The album brings together a constellation of artists that spans generations and scenes. Among the featured voices and musicians: Juçara Marçal, Mateus Fazeno Rock, Jadsa, Ava Rocha, Yma, Kiko Dinucci, Edson Van Gogh, and Anna Vis, alongside long-standing collaborators Régis Damasceno, Dustan Gallas, Clayton Martin, and Rian Batista. Each was chosen because they speak directly to Catatau’s creative world, participants in the process, not additions to it.

Everywhere today is the final single before the digital album drops from Blurry The Explorer!

“Começo” (Beginning)
Ricardo Dias Gomes opens the album with a warm Portuguese embrace celebrating life’s cyclical nature, “living, running, playing, vibrating,” where every ending births a new beginning. His tender vocals float over shimmering instrumentation, creating an inviting threshold into Blurry the Explorer’s sonic world. The track feels like someone opening a door and saying “welcome,” establishing the album’s exploratory spirit: playful, philosophical, and deeply human. With Dias Gomes singing of dancing, learning to wait, and approaching “the end that is only the beginning of another life,” “Começo” sets the perfect tone for an album rooted in discovery and transformation.

A Song Between the Dance Floor and the Sleepless Room

The track drops the listener into an everyday scene, possibly in a neighborhood, in the middle of a conversation between friends, where the narrator provokes with a quietly radical assertion: that every passion, every love story, is an invention. And yet, precisely because of that, no less real.

Musically, “Consciência” balances subtle electronic textures with guitars that appear more as gesture than centerpiece, set against an atmosphere that oscillates between the nocturnal dance floor and a silent insomniac’s bedroom. Urban and contemplative. Dancefloor-ready and philosophical. Intimate and expansive. The song synthesizes the spirit of the album in a single, flowing arc.

The melody carries what Catatau calls a “liquid identity”, familiar and mutant at once, reconnecting the listener with the Cidadão Instigado of always: the romantic songwriter, the implicit rocker, the solitary observer in a crowd.

Out today on all platforms!

“Fondo Del Azul” (Bottom of the Blue)
Argentine vocalist Lola Parda brings haunting beauty to this atmospheric journey into the depths. Her voice swirls through contemplative soundscapes that feel submerged—suspended in a place where light refracts and sound moves differently, where the boundaries between elements dissolve. The track speaks in its own borderless language: fluid, meditative, and deeply immersive, inviting listeners to surrender to the current and let themselves drift. It’s the sound of discovery itself, perfectly embodying Gustin’s process of “simultaneously producing and discovering the project in real time.” A mesmerizing dive into the unknown that rewards those willing to go deeper.
