Two officers of the Household Cavalry’s Life Guards in Knightsbridge, London, returning from an official engagement, dressed in polished cuirasses, buckskins and jackboots – the last originally reinforced against sword blows. Their helmets sport brass and silver fittings as well as long plumes of horse hair; their mounts are all black three-quarter-bred Irish draught horses.
