In a stash of photos obtained by www.HasidicArchives.com, families who had smuggled across the border between the Soviet Union and Poland—and who later resided in Pocking, Germany, and the suburbs of Paris, France—can be seen in family portraits.

Among the first batch released today are photos of the Kazen (23), Deitsch (17, 20 and 21), Rivkin (4), Garelik (5 and 12), Teibel (7), and Kaminetsky (18) families.

Can you identify any of the others in the photos?

R. Sholom Lipskar, 78, passed away over Shabbos.

He is a testament to the fact that, despite challenges and failures, if you learn from your mistakes and continue to march on, anything is possible.

The significance of Rebbe Mendel Schneerson is surveyed in this reflective anthology and photography book.

While the oral histories offer a fascinating lens into a massive figure in global Jewry, the highlight of the book is the intense, occasionally chaotic photographs by award-winning photographer Asnin, who accompanied Specter on his New York Times Magazine profile three decades ago. The photographs, full-color and high-resolution full-page presentations, appear on nearly every page. The book is as gorgeous as it is insightful and would make a lovely coffee-table centerpiece.

A poignant, well-edited collection of interviews and photographs that pays homage to “the Rebbe.”

The significance of Rebbe Mendel Schneerson is surveyed in this reflective anthology and photography book.

A MAN WITH A HEART, R. MOSHE KOTLARSKY, 74

A man of action. A man with a large heart. Lots of chutzpah, always done with a smile. He dedicated his life to fulfill the Rebbe's mission to bring Judaism to every corner of the world. Took others challenges to heart. Saw each individual as an entire world. Never gave up on a project.

He will be missed.
