This year’s Short Film Challenge is officially underway, with teams revealed and already shooting their 6 minute short! EEI's short theme is a Dramady entitled, "The Muse"! Last week the team shot on location in Queens using Amaran lights, and are now on to post-production as we write this. The shorts debut at Wild Project at 195 E.3rd St, Alphabet City, NY on August 20th. We’re cheering on all the teams as they continue on this creative journey!

We’re thrilled to announce the expansion of our New Jersey studio footprint with the opening of Suite 120 — a 12,000 square foot multi-use stage facility, including office space and truck drive-in loading bays. The stage is conveniently located next to and within the same building of our existing 47,000 square foot space in Kearny, NJ. Nearly 60,000 square feet of a full-service facility is now available and within the union zone!

In addition to the multi-use space, we've added Virtual Production to our offering which is powered by Be Electric. We have already wrapped several inaugural feature film projects including the latest Happy Madison Production. And yes, we will also be offering this service in our Brooklyn, NY stages!

🎥 Exciting updates from the Eastern Effects team as we gear up for the Short Film Challenge! This week, our talented crew gathered at our Brooklyn stage to brainstorm and write the script for our short film, which will explore the theme of Dramady. Present during the session were Zach (Director), Hayley (AD), Chidiogo (Producer), Kim (Production Design), and Elijah (DP).

Our productive session involved conducting rewrites and discussing our shooting location. The team was given a full tour of the facility and were truly impressed with the space. After careful consideration, they decided to shoot at a bar in Woodside, Queens, to better match the timing and feel of the script.

We’re excited to hit the ground running this weekend on-location using Eastern Effects’ gear! Be sure to stay tuned as we’ll be capturing real-time pics of the shoot. Let the creativity unfold! 🎬✨

🎬 Exciting news from Eastern Effects! We are thrilled to announce that our very own Bruce Jones will be leading a team as part of the 2025 Short Film Challenge! We’re in great company alongside other talented rental houses.

This year’s film challenge is officially underway, with teams revealed and starting to crew up! Brought to you by Beyond the Film School, Reel Works, and Lux Lighting, each team will create a theme-based short film in NJ/NY, writing, shooting, and editing their projects in just two weeks using only their resources. As part of our support for the team’s production, they’ll be able to “Get Effected” by our rental house and studios. At Eastern Effects, we value the magic of friendship and the moments that bring us together. Spending long hours on set, away from family and friends, we create deep connections that extend far beyond the work we do. Whether it’s sharing laughter, enjoying good times, or simply catching up, the bonds we forge on set continue with us long after the last load-out.
