In a departure from the common scenario where new homeowners find themselves with a vintage row house in need of at least some repair, this gracious 19th century brownstone was absolutely pristine when a couple with three young girls acquired it.

“It had just been fully restored and felt very original — the stairwell, the newels, the mirror and bench in the entry, the woodwork on the parlor floor,” said interior designer Jennifer Morris of Park Slope-based JMorris Design. The decorative moldings, wainscoting, and other details were elaborate and complete. The four-story building had been recently painted and wallpapered too, top to bottom. “The color story was intense, and the clients loved most of it.”

After a massive fire tore through the South Bushwick Reformed Church in Brooklyn on June 19, Brownstoner has been following the church's and local preservationists’ efforts to save what it can of the historic structure, as well as the FDNY's investigation into the blaze as possible arson.
