Sonic Scoop interviewed Joel and you can check it out here!

Influential producer/engineer Joel Hamilton shares his inspiring story and the secrets to the success of Studio G Brooklyn, which has grown from humble origins to become one of the biggest and busiest studios in all of New York City.

Joel tells Justin Colletti about his approach to business, audio, and life in a conversation that covers everything from mixing, to finding inspiration, to surviving the vagaries of New York City real estate and beyond.

Learn from the decades of collected wisdom from this 7-time GRAMMY nominee who has worked with the likes of Norah Jones, Tom Waits, BlakRoc Official, Pretty Lights, Matisyahu, Sparklehorse, Marc Ribot, Dub Trio, BOMBA ESTEREO, Bonobo, UNSANE, Iggy Pop and more.

I’m honored to have been asked to put out an album with Smithsonian Folkways Recordings. I’ve been reflecting for some years on how migration has had an impact on my family history and the music that’s resonated with me. This new music will revolve around two archetypes of American identity - immigrants and cowboys, incorporating influences of Spaghetti Westerns, Rajasthani and Punjabi folk music, 1950’s Bollywood and dare I say, shoe gaze?! The Smithsonian is a giant institution of dissemination of knowledge to the world and Folkways is a tributary of this entity in their documentation of music and sound from around the globe. I’m so excited to put this new music out with them! I was in Studio G Brooklyn last week with my collaborators Grey Mcmurray, Pawan Benjamin, Kenneth Bentley, Ganavya, Aditya Prakash, Dave Smoota Smith being produced by Joel Hamilton (Bomba Estereo, The Black Keys, Marc Ribot). I can’t wait to share this music with you! #drums #dhol #percussion #composer #bansuri #shehnai #trombone #sousaphone #guitar #bulbultarang #family #redbaraat

How a premier sound studio in #Brooklyn geared up from scratch by doing a lot with a little at first, says Studio G Brooklyn co-owner Joel Hamilton in our podcast. Says he: "Our business model kept evolving to support that new breed of kid that was starting bands in Williamsburg. We just happened to speak the same language"
