a message to anyone eager to leave 2024 in their rearview mirror like me, i’m gonna tell you what i’ve been telling myself:
first of all, it wasn’t ALL bad. it’s annoying that the beautiful, joyful moments can be so fleeting and the lows often drag on in our minds, sometimes even years later. but you can’t deny that there were still times you laughed until your stomach hurt. there were occasions where you thought “it should be illegal to have this much fun right now.” moments where you actually were proud of yourself with no imposter syndrome in sight. there were people who made you feel safe and showed you for you. don’t discount that.
secondly, i literally don’t care what went wrong, who you lost or what you lost this year - you have to keep going. you cannot play around like we get another one of these. we get to try life one time. do not do a disservice to yourself by giving up now. if you don’t think you can do it for future you, then do it for 15 year old you. show them that you never gave up on them.
i genuinely hope that resonates. there’s no manual for this life s**t. don’t forget that. we’re all just doing the best we can with what we got and we all weren’t given the same conditions to do so. your journey is journey AND IT MATTERS. take care of yourselves and each other. wishing you all a safe, gentle, finishing of the year.
