This is exactly why I do what I do. đź’›

Survivors of s*xual assault, abuse, harassment, and discrimination already carry so much. And yet, far too many are silenced again, not by their abusers directly, but by retaliatory defamation lawsuits designed to drain them financially, break them emotionally, and keep them quiet.

I know this firsthand. I lived it.

That's why I am standing fully, loudly, and unwaveringly behind the Speak Your Truth Act, landmark legislation that originated in California thanks to the tireless work of Victoria Burke, and is now being pushed nationwide.

This bill has already been enacted in California, Oregon, Connecticut, and Maine. And right now, fourteen more states, including Massachusetts, are fighting to pass it too.

What this act does is simple but transformative:

It protects survivors' First Amendment rights when speaking their truth publicly. It ensures that anyone who tries to silence a survivor through a defamation lawsuit must prove actual malice, that the survivor knowingly made false statements. And it holds bad-faith lawsuits accountable by requiring those who file and lose to cover the survivor's legal fees. Let me be clear:

Telling your truth is not defamation.
Surviving is not a crime.
And no one should be sued into silence for speaking about what happened to them.

This legislation needs to pass in every single state. I will keep raising my voice until it does. To learn more, follow and explore the Speak Your Truth Act. đź’™

This article is bringing hope, validation, and important conversation to so many survivors and families right now.

For many people impacted by childhood sexual abuse, healing and speaking out does not happen on a timeline. Trauma often takes years, sometimes decades, to fully process, understand, and feel safe enough to talk about.

That’s why conversations around statutes of limitations matter so deeply.

I encourage you to take a few moments to read this powerful piece and reflect on what accountability, justice, and support for survivors can truly look like.

I’d love to encourage you to check out my recent conversation on the Empowerography Podcast with Brad Walsh.

This episode was especially meaningful to me because we spent time talking honestly about the frustration, anger, disappointment, and emotional weight that so many SSTA survivors carry for years, and what it looked like for me to begin healing from those feelings instead of staying trapped inside them.

These are not always easy conversations to have, but they are important ones.

Thank you to Brad for the kindness, compassion, and support he showed me throughout this discussion and for creating such a safe space to share openly.

The episode aired on May 8th and is available to listen to on podcast platforms!

I recently had the opportunity to join the Willow Healing Matters Podcast with host Catherine Crestani for a meaningful conversation, and I’m grateful to share that the episode is now live! 🎙️

In this episode, Catherine and I talk about what it means to carry trauma and silence for decades, the emotional impact of finally speaking the truth, and the ongoing journey of healing, self-compassion, and reclaiming your voice.

This conversation is honest, vulnerable, and ultimately hopeful. My hope is that anyone listening who has experienced trauma, shame, or silence will feel a little less alone.

I’d love to express my sincere thanks to Willow Healing Matters for creating such a thoughtful and supportive space for this discussion. The episode is now available to listen to online.

In just a couple of weeks, I’ll be traveling to Long Island, New York, to participate in the first-ever .org Sibling Sexual Trauma & Abuse (SSTA) Conference, “Breaking the Silence.” 💛

I’m incredibly honored to be part of this important event and to stand alongside so many voices helping bring awareness, education, and healing to conversations surrounding SSTA.

During my session, “Letting Go to Live Forward,” I’ll be sharing reflections from my own healing journey and talking about the transition so many survivors face between surviving and truly learning how to live forward. We’ll explore the survival patterns that often protect us early in life, but can quietly hold us back later on, and the role self-trust, nervous system regulation, and intentional healing can play in moving forward.

This event also marks one of my first conference presentations, helping me launch this new chapter of my work following the release of "Shattering Silence," which makes it even more meaningful to me.

I truly cannot wait to be part of these conversations and connect with attendees in person.
