What’s in season? This is a question we get asked often. While this list may range from year to year based on growing conditions, weather patterns and all the things that we’re beholden to due to nature, this is a fun list and honestly, you’ll get way more quality if you work with your season, rather than against it. If you start pushing for things out of season, sometimes it’s just not growing anywhere in the world, but if it is, it can be shipped from other parts of the world for a premium, like peonies in December from New Zealand!
Trust your florist to give you the most beautiful selection for the time of year you’re getting married in. If you get too hung up on flower types, it’s going to stifle the vibe. Ok let’s talk seasons!
WINTER. It’s the most underrated season in my opinion. We’re getting anemones, those early season daffodils, forsythia, spirea, pieris, citrus, blue privet berries, hellebores, fritillaria persica, fritillaria meleagris, amaryllis and then there’s always roses available. These flowers are STUNNING and honestly so underused, and warms up any palette for winter.
SPRING. Some of the winter flowers can roll into spring depending on the seasons, but you can always count on the drama from the PEONY. She’s ostentatious, and flirty. A classic favorite. For good reason. But there’s also tulips, sweet peas, delphiniums, ranunculus, lilacs, tulips, and then some of your local roses are popping off. Things like calla lilies are always available, I just liked them in this palette.
SUMMER. Summer is a tough one honestly with the heat. It’s like in between seasons, but hydrangeas are going off, zinnias, some dahlias start but it’s still kind of early for them, then you have tropicals like orchids, callas, anthuriums that like warm weather, sunflowers are a classic.
