๐๐Long before SpaceX transformed the South Texas coast, the area now known as Starbase was a small community called Kennedy Shores.
In September 1967, Hurricane Beulah struck the Rio Grande Valley, causing major damage to the coastal community and destroying its water system. For decades, residents of what later became known as Boca Chica Village had to bring water in from Brownsville, while the area remained isolated and sparsely developed.
Years later, that isolation helped make Boca Chica an attractive location for SpaceX. In 2014, the company selected the area for a private launch facility, beginning a transformation that would put this small corner of South Texas on the global space map.
