Buffalo Firefighters of the 3rd Battalion, Second Platoon operate at a second alarm fire, with additional pumpers, on June 18th, 2024. The fire was dispatched shortly before 8pm, and Engine 1 arrived to report heavy fire through the roof of a 4-story vacant, ordinary construction.
Due to the age and condition of the building, as well as the advanced fire progression, a defensive strategy was declared almost immediately. The building, which has stood on the corner of Illinois Street and South Park Avenue for over a century, was boarded up, with several access challenges.
With four tower ladders, one ladder pipe, and multiple hand-lines operating in 80°+ temperatures, the tireless Buffalo Firefighters contained the fire to the building of origin; a testament to the calibre and determination of the companies operating.
