Mary Brockert, popularly known as Teena Marie, the pop/soul icon dubbed "Lady T" and the "Ivory Queen of Soul," was a highly influential American singer, songwriter, musician, and producer. Melissa Kate’s unique vocal range, backed by a powerful group of musicians and background vocalists, has lifted Melissa into a unique position to tell her story. Teena Marie broke barriers as a white artist on the Motown label. Her career included successful albums, hit singles, and a groundbreaking legal battle against Motown that resulted in the "Brockert Initiative."
