According to data from the National Weather Service, the Buffalo area saw about 16.2 inches of rain since the beginning of meteorological spring, which started March 1 and ended May 31. That makes this the third wettest spring ever recorded in the area, the federal agency's data show.
As with any weather, farmers have to adjust to what they are given. Those growing food in Western New York are feeling the pain.
The unusually rainy spring has likely delayed when local farmers can put seeds in the ground, said Sharon Bachman, agriculture and natural resources educator for the Cornell Cooperative Extension in Erie County.
