When I was younger, basketball was everything to me. And if you have ever played, you know about running suicides. Some people call them ladders. You sprint to the first line, touch it, run back, then out to the next one. Line after line. It is grueling. And here is the thing. When the coach had his back turned, or maybe stepped out of the gym, a lot of guys would cheat it. They would swipe at the line with a foot, or stop just short, saving themselves a little bit of energy.
But I never let myself do that. I always touched the line. Every single time. It became more than just part of practice. It was a standard I set for myself. It was about being disciplined, being honest, and doing the right thing even when no one was watching. And that has stuck with me to this day. So I will ask you this. In your own life, are you touching the line? Or are you cutting it short when nobody is paying attention?
