BULLHEAD CITY — With possibly heavy rain expected late Monday and throughout the day Tuesday, the National Weather Service already has issued a flood watch for the Tri-state.

The NWS Las Vegas Forecast Office said rainfall of up to an inch — and possibly up to 2 inches in some locales — will fall in areas already saturated by rainfall Sunday and Monday to create flooding conditions through Wednesday morning.

The watch area includes parts of Clark and Nye counties in Nevada, most of Mohave County in Arizona and eastern San Bernardino County and most of Inyo County in California. The watch went was to go into effect at 11 p.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service, there is was an 60% chance of rain overnight Monday into Tuesday and a 90% chance for more rain throughout daytime hours Tuesday, dropping to 60% overnight and eventually to 30% during Wednesday daylight hours.

Rain remains in the forecast for the Tri-state through Friday night. Mostly sunny skies are predicted for Saturday and Sunday.

Heavy rain and persistent, slow-moving bands of rain can cause flooding in normally dry washes. Heavy rain also could reduce visibility. Flooded roads may become impassible.

Rainfall of a quarter of an inch to nearly an inch fell in many locations in the Bullhead City area Sunday. Secret Pass, east of Bullhead City, recorded 1.2 inches of rain on Sunday while Union Pass, on Highway 68 west of Golden Valley recorded 1.14 inches. Most locations in Bullhead City, Fort Mohave and Mohave Valley reported between one-third and one-half inch with similar amounts in the Lake Havasu and Kingman areas.

The Mohave Valley Daily News

(Please Read the Rules below)

News West Publishing, a division of Brehm Communications, purchased the Mohave Valley News in Bullhead City, Ariz., from Western Newspapers in 1991.

At the time, News West published the Booster Advertiser, a twice-weekly classified advertising product, while Western published the Valley News twice weekly. The competing publications were both looking at going daily.

Western decided to sell and News West became the publisher of the Valley News in June, 1991. A fourth day of publication was added, followed by a fifth day in 1992. The name of the newspaper was changed at that time to the Mohave Valley Daily News.
