I was hesitant to post this, but I decided I have no more shame. I was looking over shots I’ve animated in the past and I forgot how ridiculous the reference I took for this shot was 😅 This Camilo transformation shot was fun to animate, but something about the line “ISABELLAAAAAA!!!” was really addicting to sing loudly while my wife Isabelle was in the room.

Shoutout to Valentín Amador who I remember gave me some really awesome drawovers for this shot! Also thank you to all the other Encanto supes who helped push this in a fun direction 🙂.

I animated another voicemail 🐦📞! Maybe this is my life now? (I’m OK with it 🤣) There’s a lot to unpack in this one: From the ‘marshmallow roast’ comment to the unrestrained anger — I think this qualifies as a top-tier dad voicemail. Check it out on YouTube for higher quality and less weird Instagram cropping.

Sidenote: while making these I often think it’s interesting how much real life can be funnier than fiction. Like, if someone were to write this stuff in a script, I don’t think it would work or be believable… but it’s like… objectively hilarious in real life.

This camera switcher hotkey in Maya is super useful for me! It really helps when you're restricted to one monitor, but I've also found it useful as a toggle to quickly check up on your animation through the camera view. Check out all of my custom maya hotkeys up on Patreon!

Do pigeons hiccup?? Is that a thing?! I wonder... Either way, bringing this voicemail to life via derpy pigeon animation was so fun! I really enjoyed the challenge of trying to get the pigeon-spilling-coffee effect to feel believable. It’s always fun to see when live-action and animation play off each other.

The eyes are probably the most important part of a character -- it's where the audience looks the most! But they are also the hardest to rig... This is why I created a 'googly-eye' rig for most of my characters. It's much easier to rig, and is super customizable!

🦉My top priority when designing the Owl rig was to be able to fully rotate its head 360 degrees -- While it's not the most realistic rig, I found a pretty crafty solution! I did a full breakdown of the Owl on Patreon → Join Creator Club Pro (monthly livestreams + more)!

Sometimes voicemails are so funny to me that I question whether they are even real — this was one of those haha. Between the personality in her voice, the perfectly timed coughs, and the ending “bye”… I’m not sure how to go up from here 😂.
