WKYR Launches “Stuff the Bus” Campaign to Support Cumberland County Backpack Program
Burkesville, KY – August 19, 2025 – WKYR is proud to announce the return of its annual “Stuff the Bus” campaign, with a new mission for 2025. In past years, the focus has been on collecting school supplies, but this year the need looks different. With supplies already provided to students, WKYR is partnering with the community to raise funds for the Cumberland County Backpack Program.
The Backpack Program, operated through the Cumberland County School District in collaboration with Feeding America, ensures that local students have access to nutritious food on weekends and holidays when school meals aren’t available. Each week, food is purchased and sent home in backpacks to students in need.
“Funds for this vital program are extremely limited as the new school year begins,” said Connie Crabtree-Stephens, owner of River Country Communications. “We’re asking our community to step up once again — not to fill a backpack with pencils and notebooks, but to help fill it with meals for our kids.”
How to Donate:
• Donations may be dropped off at WKYR, 1089 S Main Street in Burkesville
• Checks should be made payable to Cumberland County Backpack Program
• Deadline for contributions at WKYR is Friday, August 29, 2025.
• Donations may still be taken by any Cumberland County School or the Board of Education throughout the school year.
WKYR invites all listeners, local businesses and community members to take part in this effort. Every dollar raised goes directly to feeding students in Cumberland County.
Together, we can Stuff the Account for the Backpack Program and ensure that no child goes hungry this school year.
