Sheriff’s Report

Hopefully everyone had a great week! For the last several months, we have been working with a company to develop a smartphone application specifically for Newton County Sheriff’s Office. We are happy to announce that the app was officially launched today. We will post download instructions on our page, as well as share them with the local news. This app was paid for by our inmate telephone provider, NCIC, and did not cost the taxpayers of Newton County one penny. This should be a force multiplier when it comes to communication and keeping the citizens of the county informed of what is happening at their Sheriff’s Office.

You can tell we are in the holiday season, as we have been responding to a number of family disturbances. Let’s try to keep it civil during the holiday season!

On Saturday evening, we responded to an incident where a man was attempting to cut down a tree. During the process, he got onto his tractor in an attempt to push the tree over. Unfortunately, the tree fell on him, and he succumbed to his injuries. Please keep this family in your prayers.

Saturday night, I was honored to lead the annual Newton Lighted Christmas Parade. We appreciate all of the volunteers, especially the Newton Fire Department, who make this event possible year after year.

Last week, we answered 44 calls for service and booked 6 individuals into the Newton County Jail. We currently have 24 inmates housed in the following facilities: 9 in Jasper, 7 in Beauregard Parish, and 8 in the Newton County Jail.

Let us know if you need anything! Go Eagles!

Sheriff’s Report

Hopefully everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We had an extremely busy week at the Sheriff’s Office. We are continuing to investigate leads pertaining to the dog fighting investigation.

Friday night we had the annual Deweyville Christmas parade. I appreciate everyone that makes it happen year after year. Saturday night I attended the lighting of the Newton County Courthouse. Great job to everyone that made this happen. It’s always a great time seeing the community get together for the holidays.

This afternoon, we assisted the United States Marshal’s Office serve an arrest warrant in Deweyville. As Marshals and Deputies got the first guy into custody, they noticed another passerby that also had warrants. They were able to safely take both subjects into custody without incident.

Saturday evening, Reverend Rodney Norsworthy of Jasper came by and presented us with stop the bleed kits, tourniquets and mass-casualty trauma kits to give out to our deputies to help keep the community safe.

Last week, we answered 49 calls for service and booked 4 individuals into the Newton County Jail. We currently have 24 inmates housed in the following facilities: 10 in Jasper, 7 in Beauregard Parish, and 7 in the Newton County Jail.

I hope everyone has a great week!
