Labor Day is more than the unofficial end of summer — it’s a day to honor the generations of workers who stood together for dignity, safety, and fairness. From the early labor strikes that won the 8-hour workday to today’s unions protecting those on the frontlines, the fight for working people has never stopped. ✊🚒
IAFF Local 4111 is proud to be part of that legacy. This holiday, we honor the labor movement’s past, celebrate its victories, and recommit ourselves to protecting our community and our brothers and sisters in labor.

Fast work by our friends in Sedro!!

How does Narcan work? In our brains, we have certain receptors that love opioids. In overdoses, those receptors are packed! Narcan is an opioid antagonist (think villain era, in a good way.) When it’s administered, usually through intramuscular (in the muscle) injection or sprayed intranasally (in the nose). When Narcan hits your blood stream, it goes to work in your brain, clearing your receptors. It binds to them, reversing the effects of the opioids! This means everything goes back to factory settings. Most importantly, breathing goes back to normal, effectively saving someone’s life.

Add Narcan to your first aid kit! Programs like PHRA (people’s harm reduction alliance) can mail it directly to you.

Crews from Burlington Fire and Skagit County Fire District 6 stretched 300’ of hose from the ladder truck at the Skagit River boat launch to stop a car fire on a forest trail. This could have easily been a brush fire as well due to the location, but quick action by our crews meant that didn’t happen. 🚒🔥 A reminder that Skagit County is under a burn ban—please follow restrictions to help us prevent wildfires. 🌲

Meet Brodel, FF/PM Adam’s pup! 🐕 He’s rocking Adam’s wildland blouse while helping dad pack for a mobe! Adam is attached to a helicopter team in Wyoming 🚁. FF/PM Ben is also away, serving as a fire line medic in Idaho 🚑🔥. Both will be gone for the next two weeks helping battle wildfires—proud of our crews near and far! 💪

👏🎉 Congrats to FF/PM Parrett on becoming certified to operate our 2019 Pierce Ascendant Quint 🚒

👉 A quint is basically an engine and ladder truck in one:
• It pumps water 💦
• Carries its own tank 🚰
• Has hoses 🧑‍🚒
• A 107’ ladder (99’ reach) 🌆
• Lots of ladders and tools for rescue 🪜🪚

This makes it one of the most versatile rigs we have — used for firefighting, rescues, ventilation, and rope operations. 💪

🔥 Meet a Member Monday 🔥
This week we shine the spotlight on Firefighter/EMT Cole Gordon!

Cole has been with Burlington Fire for 4 years, bringing with him a lifelong connection to the fire service. His grandfather’s stories as a founding member of District 2 and his mother’s work in EMS inspired him early on. By 18, Cole was already an EMT and firefighter, ready to follow in their footsteps.

He chose Burlington for the chance to serve his community in a professional role, facing new challenges every day and helping people when they need it most.

💬 Best part of the job: “The friendships I’ve made across every shift.”
🥶 Fun fact: Firefighters spend about a third of their lives at the station… and yes, they love ice cream! 🍦
🌾 Outside of work: Cole enjoys duck hunting, farming, and running a pumpkin patch.

✨ Shout-out: Cole gives special thanks to Nate Parsons for his guidance and support.

Cole’s dedication, humor, and hometown pride make him a valued part of our fire family. 👏

Sean joins us from Skagit County Fire District #6 and Nicole comes from the ER at Skagit Valley Hospital — bringing their skills, heart, and dedication to our team.
