S*K Preseason 🏀 Player to Watch: Hartford (1A-DII) junior Coy Wilkinson returns as one of the top scorers in the classification after a standout 2024-25 season. Wilkinson averaged 19.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game, leading the Jaguars to a 15-8 record and a sub-state championship appearance. At 6’1”, Wilkinson brings strong athleticism and versatility to the floor, excelling at both shooting guard and point guard. His play earned him 2nd Team LCL and 2nd Team Sports in Kansas 1A-DII honors last season. Looking ahead, Wilkinson said, “I’m extremely excited. Me and the guys have done a lot to prepare this off-season. We are looking to do big things and go further than last year.” A fun fact about Wilkinson: he didn’t start playing basketball until he was 12.

Temperatures will be cooler for the rest of the week with highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s. A few flurries could fly in central Kansas this evening. Otherwise, conditions look dry until this weekend when rain is expected on Saturday. Rain could change to light snow with only minor accumulations possible late Saturday. Even cooler air moves in behind Saturday's system.

Tuesday Afternoon update: Confidence is increasing for a regional winter storm to impact the Central Plains and Midwest Friday-Saturday. Initial rain over northeast Kansas will transition to light snow through the day Saturday. Little to no snow accumulations are anticipated at this time for northeast Kansas, but that could change in the coming days. Accumulating snow resulting in hazardous travel is most likely towards portions of Iowa, eastern Missouri, and into Illinois. If you plan to travel across these areas this weekend, it's important to stay up to date on the latest weather forecast and prepare for alternate travel plans.

Even during the federal government shutdown, our resident inspectors remained on duty, providing around-the-clock oversight to ensure the continued safety and security of the U.S. nuclear fleet. Last month, our two resident inspectors at the Wolf Creek nuclear power plant in Kansas observed a refueling outage and hosted their counterpart from Wolf Creek’s U.K. sister plant, Sizewell B, for an information exchange. Visits like this support our domestic mission, enhance global nuclear safety and support U.S. priorities under recent Executive Orders and the ADVANCE Act.

NEWS UPDATE:

The Kansas Highway Patrol would like to express appreciation for the extraordinary outpouring of support that has been shown—and continues to show—for Trooper Adam Ellis and the three Osage County deputies injured during Saturday’s officer-involved shooting near Carbondale.

On November 15, 2025, Trooper Adam Ellis was one of two troopers who assisted the Osage County Sheriff’s Office with a domestic disturbance call when gunfire erupted between the suspect and responding officers. During the exchange, Trooper Ellis and three Osage County deputies were struck by gunfire. Two of the injured deputies have been treated and released from the hospital, and the third is expected to be released soon.

Trooper Ellis sustained two gunshots wounds. He remains in stable condition and continues to receive outstanding care at The University of Kansas Hospital. Despite the seriousness of his injuries, Trooper Ellis is in good spirits.

Please continue to keep Trooper Ellis, and the three injured Osage County deputies, in your thoughts and prayers.
