We are currently facing continued fire threat today as well as diminished air quality as a result of smoke from Canadian wildfires. Expect hazy, smoky conditions today, especially valleys and low lying areas.

A serial arsonist has been reported in Bradford County. If you live in any of these areas and you have cameras please check your camera footage and report anything suspicious to local authorities.

***WINTER STORM WARNING ***

The National Weather Service has updated the alert level to a Winter Storm Warning for Bradford County effective from 7:00 am Thursday through the afternoon hours on Friday. Snow is expected to approach from the southwest and will overspread the area around 10:00 am tomorrow. Precipitation may begin as a wintry mix before quickly switching over to all snow. Snowfall totals are projected to be between 6-10” at higher elevation and 4-8” in the river valley with the lowest totals in the southeastern portion of the County where some mixing may occur overnight. There is potential for 12+” at the highest elevations. Snowfall rates will be ½” to 1” per hour during the peak of the storm. 2-6” of snow are expected between 10:00 am to 7:00 pm Thursday with another 3-6” of additional snowfall through early afternoon Friday. All indications are this will be a heavy/wet snowfall which could lead to downed trees and wires especially on the back end of the storm as winds pickup. Isolated to widespread power outages are possible. Travel conditions will be hazardous especially during the afternoon/evening Thursday into Friday morning.

WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY MORNING THROUGH FRIDAY AFTERNOON.

Heavy mixed precipitation possible. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inches and ice accumulations up to around two tenths of an inch possible. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph.

LOCATIONS: In New York, Northern Oneida, Steuben, Schuyler, Chemung, Tompkins, Madison, Southern Oneida, Cortland, Chenango, Otsego, Tioga, Broome, Delaware and Sullivan counties. In Pennsylvania, Bradford, Susquehanna, Northern Wayne, Wyoming, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Pike and Southern Wayne counties.

TIMING: From Thursday morning through Friday afternoon.

IMPACTS: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes. The snow is expected to be wet and heavy, and could potentially bring down tree branches that could lead to scattered power outages.

Snow and ice amounts will vary greatly depending on location and elevation.
Monitor the latest forecasts for updates on this situation. Winter storm warnings could be issued as the storm gets closer and confidence increases.
