Hi, friends and followers I hope you are all having a lovely holiday weekend. In a few days you will notice many changes coming to this page. Calamity was a fun business and I made many great friends and experiences however it is time that I move on to my next chapter. I will no longer be guiding trips and rebranding this page to be a more creative writing and photo outlet. If the rebrand is something you are not interested in seeing, feel free to unfollow any time. If you love adventure, history, and seeing beautiful remote locations- stay tuned because you know that's what I do!

We know it's warm and sunny now, but would you believe Steens Mountain got 24+ inches of new snow last week? That brings the current snow-depth to 79 inches and 162% of the average for the area’s water year.

Do you want to keep track of snow and moisture on Steens Mountain? Check out National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)’s Northwest River Forecast Center and use the map to find the Fish Creek Snotel site.

Follow OregonDot’s TripCheck site for details on the seasonal opening of the Steens Mountain Loop Road.

Spring is here and the Harney Basin is turning green. We are excited for this upcoming season and we would love to see you here in Eastern Oregon! Check out a list of the full services we offer, we have a variety of unique experiences for your next adventure in one of the last frontier regions of the US.

Did you know that out of the 3,143 counties in the US, only 812 are considered frontier? Not sure what makes a county "frontier"? In Oregon, it's counties with less than 6 people per square mile. Harney County has 0.75 people per square mile. If we do some fun math, we can calculate that Multnomah County (Portland Metro Area) has 1,600/sq mile. New York City? 28,000/sq mile 😳 😵‍

So, if you're interested in getting away from the masses, there are thousands of square miles to explore. Let us be your guide.
