🎄🏀 SPECIAL OLYMPICS MITCHELL COUNTY SKILLS NIGHT! 🏀🎄

Join us on Thursday, December 11th from 5:30–6:30 PM in the gym at Bowman for a festive and fun Skills Night!

We’ll be:
⭐ Practicing basketball skills
⭐ Enjoying Christmas treats provided by Special Olympics Mitchell County
⭐ Getting a special visit from SANTA CLAUS! 🎅✨

This will be a wonderful evening of holiday fun, community, and celebration, and we would LOVE to see all Special Olympics athletes there! ❤️🎁

Mitchell County Schools will have a remote learning day tomorrow, Tuesday, December 9. Temperatures are at freezing in some areas and mixed precipitation continues to fall in areas of our county this evening with an additional 1-2 inches of snow predicted. Students, please follow the instructions given to you by your teacher for remote learning. Staff, please follow instructions given by your principal.

Your MHS Marching Band enjoyed performing in the Spruce Pine Christmas Parade last weekend, and had the honor of being today's Grand Marshalls for the Buladean Christmas Parade! We would like to extend a huge "Thank You!" to the Buladean Community Foundation for feeding us an amazing meal afterwards. This group will be performing in the Bakersville Parade tonight, so come show your support. 💜 Happy Holidays!

We are proud to honor Ralph Hammond as this year’s Christmas Parade Grand Marshal!

A true Main Street icon, Ralph was born in Yancey County in 1936, attended the old Burnsville School and graduated high school in 1954. He went on to attend Mars Hill College before serving in the U.S. Navy. Forging his own path at a young age, Ralph built a life defined by resilience, hard work, and love for his hometown. After years of traveling and working, he returned to Burnsville and has since been the proud owner of Hammond Antiques, where he continues to be a beloved part of our community. Join us in congratulating Mr. Hammond, and let’s show him how much this community appreciates him! ❤️
