So I have made a final decision on who stays and who goes. Here is the future blue/cream that I already have will be added to my breeding project. These little beauties came from hatching eggs that I got from Auri, born on 02/12/25 and she did such a fantastic job with producing these gorgeous babies!!! I have zero complaints. They have gorgeous wings, beautiful feet, and such magnificent coloring!!

For everyone out there struggling with learning the feather type, read Auri's post!!!
I myself have experienced this. I took a Satin frizzle and paired him with a Satin, and I got Silkie feathering and Satins with no Satin Frizzles.. I've bred two Silkies together and have gotten 1-2 babies pop out Satin. It happens. I've had to argue with people who thought they knew more than I, which I have found seems to come from very small backyard flock people who are hell-bent on arguing this point that they know more than a breeder who is test breeding to see what they produce and what pops through the lines. They throw out there they know more because they have studied the science of feather type.. I just don't argue with those types of people.. I will shout it to the rooftops YES it can happen!! I've done test breedings many different ways with feather type, and it can pop up. It's important to take notes and know the lines. I think about Showgirls. If it's in the lines, and neither parent is a showgirl, there's a 15%-20% chance a showgirl baby will pop through, and it can be greater if both parents carry the gene. It's just that simple..

Did you know that two satin parents can create a Silkie feather offspring if they are both heterozygous for the gene? I forget this at times; but then out pops this cute silkie from the all satin pairing. Both of these pullets have the exact same parents!

This is because silkie feathering is recessive. Satins can carry the silkie feathering if they had one parent that carried it. If you were to cross two of these heterozygous birds with each other then its possible 25% will be complete normal feathered, 50% will be heterzygous, and 25% will be homozygous and express Silkie.

Okay!! I need help with something I'm on the fence about...

I'd like to know breeders' thoughts on Mareick.
Vaccinate or not to.💁‍♀️
If I'm about breeding strong, healthy Immune systems in my birds, is there a point to?? With Marerks, it's on the ground due to wild birds, so if my birds are eating clover and grass from the ground and are strong and healthy, wouldn't it be fine not to vaccinate for it? ALL birds have it, that touches the ground, and birds are not showing symptoms, then is there a point to even do so...
Need some clarity on this subject matter from those who are more educated than I!!

Pic for attention! Breeder credits Rose Blossom Silkies
