Canal Fest Road Closures

Canal Fest and the Bicentennial Celebration of the Erie Canal is this weekend in Historic Vischer Ferry. Beginning Saturday morning, there will be a parade at 10:30am starting from the “White Barn” at 283 Riverview Road and ending at the intersection of Riverview and Vischer Ferry Roads.

Riverview Road will be closed to traffic from 283 Riverview Road to Vischer Ferry Road during the parade from 10:30am to approximately 11:00am.

Following the parade, a section of Riverview Road from Amity Church to the intersection of Vischer Ferry will remain closed until 4:30pm when the event concludes for the day. There is a statewide burn ban, if you’re tempted to burn your brush pile, please don’t. The couple days of rain we got does not make up for the drought we had most of the summer. The ground is dry. My sump pump has not kicked on once since May. The trees are thin. If you have big trees, look at the trunks- they are dehydrated. We could easily have wildfires. Please don’t burn.

With dry conditions and high fire danger in most of New York State, a temporary burn ban is in effect until Oct. 15. It may be extended afterwards. Please help protect our lands and our communities. Don't burn. Spread the word. Read more: https://loom.ly/I3BBC1U

IMPORTANT STATEMENT FROM TEAM GLENVILLE
Our Democratic opponents are running their entire campaign on the idea that greater cooperation is needed between the town and the village of Scotia. The fact is such cooperation is already happening. The Town of Glenville has a mutual assistance agreement with the Village for our police departments. The village is using our Town court facilities rent free while their own courthouse is being rebuilt. We have also discussed additional ways to share services, including within our building departments. We contribute toward the village 4th of July celebration every year. We all have friends and family who live in the Village of Scotia, and we value them all.

Any disagreement between the Town of Glenville and the Village of Scotia is with their ELECTED LEADERS, not the everyday citizens who are our neighbors. The fiscal management of the Village of Scotia controlled for years by the Democrats has been and is a disaster. The village tax rate is over four times that of the Town of Glenville and higher than any other municipality in Schenectady County. Taxes have gone up 25% since 2020 in the Village while Town tax rates remain the lowest in Schenectady County. We are open to further cooperation with the village wherever it makes sense but, the residents of the town of Glenville cannot and won’t take on the additional tax burden needed to solve the fiscal quagmire caused by Village officials.

Let’s be honest no one is suffering more in this situation than the businesses and homeowners in the Village who are being burdened again and again due to the fiscally irresponsible decisions of their village board. These are facts. So, when you hear our opponents talk about cooperation the translation is that THEY want Democrats in charge in Town like we have in the village so Town residents can subsidize the bad decisions of the Village Trustees. On that we are a hard no.
