This week is the national kickoff of the Route 66 Centennial Celebration. Illinois was the first paved section of this iconic national highway that stretched from Chicago to Santa Monica connecting small towns for the first time. We had the opportunity to create a video about Route 66's history in Will County and discovered many gems that bring this nostagic Route 66 Road trip to life today!

Take a road trip on Route 66 through the Heritage Corridor in Will County, Illinois. Celebrate the centennial of this historic road with sights from the past and exciting places to explore today. There is plenty of nostalgia and fun to be found along Historic Route 66.

Giving back to the community and creating a more equitable world are two core values of our organization. Congrats to our Founder and President as she shares her time and talent as a new board member for Urban Autism Solutions.

We’re excited to welcome Carole Burke Hallberg to the UAS Board of Directors!

Carole is an award-winning producer, writer, and director with more than 30 years of leadership in video production. As founder of CBH Video Productions & Creative Services, she brings strategic insight and hands-on ex*****on to create long-term impact.

Her connection to UAS is both personal and purposeful. After her son Jayson was diagnosed with PDD-NOS at age two, Carole became a dedicated advocate within schools and the autism community. Today, Jayson serves on the UAS Young Adult Advisory Council.

Carole also brings deep nonprofit and community leadership. A founding member and charter President of the Chicago Windy City Lions Club, she now serves as Global Extension Coordinator for Lions in Chicago and has helped support Growing Solutions Farm through service projects and partnership development.

Her advocacy, communications expertise, and ability to build strong community partnerships will strengthen our impact and expand opportunities for the young adults we serve.

Today is National Banana Bread Day. Yes we have no bananas, but we do have this great story that we produced about the Mayan Breadnut tree. This is a seed that can feed the masses. Loaded with vitamins and nutrients, it's boiled or roasted and ground into flour for tortillas, bread, or put into horchata and other delicious recipes. The Mayan cultures of Central America used it wisely. See how Lions are helping to promote its use in El Salvador where this seed is called Ojushte.

We captured volunteers gleaning citrus fruit. They are picking it for a senior community and sharing it with that community and the extra gets donated to a food pantry! “No fruit left behind!”

Today we were doing a shoot at Lions International and noticed the flags out front were flying at half mast in honor of President Jimmy Carter. He was a proud Lion member for more that 60 years. The gift of sight statue was to commemorate the Lions and Carter Center partnership to work together to eliminate River Blindness and Trachoma. May He rest in Peace and Lions continue this important work.
