Daytona Beach is working to secure its role as host of the NCA & NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship beyond 2026. Hotel shortages caused by hurricane damage have created challenges for accommodating teams and spectators, prompting Varsity to explore bids from other cities for the 2027-2030 contract. With financial incentives increasing and competing locations offering expanded accommodations, the future of the championship in Daytona remains uncertain.

COACHES: This almost derailed one of the performances last weekend. Turn off Apple AI before you approach the DJ table on iPhone 15 and 16. It's automatically enabled when you update the iOS (even if you had Siri off before the update). If it hears you say HEY SIRI (or thinks it hears something similar), it will stop all music playback.

AI isn't for everyone—and you don't have to use it. Turn off Apple Intelligence on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac with just a few clicks.

Coaches: Don't use emojis in the file name of your music. We ran into this problem where Dropbox will not sync a file because the file name has emojis.

We are working to learn more about the new iPhone "auto-restart" feature in iOS 18.1 (the latest iOS as of today) and how it may affect cheer and dance events.

Apple has added a new security feature with the iOS 18.1 update released last month to ensure that iPhones automatically reboot after long idle periods to re-encrypt data and make it harder to extract.
